Foodborne Illness Complaints

If you believe your illness was caused by eating at a commercial food establishment (restaurant, deli or caterer) complete the Foodborne Illness Complaint Form or call the Office of Epidemiology at (702) 759-1300. Provide your contact information so an investigator can follow up if more information is required.

Label Review

Food establishments that package foods for off-site sale, such as wholesaling of pre-packaged products for sale in grocery stores or at farmers markets, or off-site consumption, such as ready-made sandwiches, are required to label those packaged foods, and must obtain approval for each of those labels from the health district. Foods requiring labels are those durably pre-packaged before customer order, such as packets of spice blends, bagged & sealed bread, bagged and sealed cookies and cakes, salsa or condiments in tubs or jars, premade wrapped sandwiches, etc.

Syrup of Ipecac Policy Change

The Southern Nevada Health District Regulations Governing the Sanitation of Child Care Facilities (Adopted August 22, 2002), Section 4.4.2 (l) requires an “Un-expired bottle of Syrup of Ipecac that is only administered following instructions from a poison control center or physician” to be included in the first aid kit of a child care facility.

Safe Drinking Water Program

Body Art Card Requirements

Body piercing and permanent makeup artists are required to get a Body Art Card to ensure the following requirements are met: Be a minimum of 18 years of age. Have a minimum of six months experience or training. Obtained a score of at least 80 percent on the multiple choice examination. Possess current certification in infectious disease training.

Body Art

The Southern Nevada Health District Environmental Health Division regulates, permits and inspects all body art establishments. Body art is defined as tattoo, permanent makeup, and body piercing. Recently tattoos have become mainstream and are viewed by enthusiasts as expressive forms of body art. From eagles inked onto biceps to perfectly arched 'permanent' eyebrows, tattooing has become big business in Clark County.

Aquatic Facility Regulations

The Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) Sections 444.010 – 444.546 served as SNHD’s governing document to regulate the operation of public bathing places. Due to changes to industry and safety standards, SNHD developed and proposed regulations based on the CDC’s Model Aquatic Health Code. The new regulations were approved by the Board of Health in April 2018 and approved by the Nevada State Board of Health on June 8, 2018.

Cottage Food Operations

In May, 2013, the Nevada Legislature passed, and the Governor signed, the Cottage Food bill (SB206 PDF), allowing certain foods to be prepared and sold from a person’s home. The law language will be filed under Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) Chapter 446 and is effective July 1, 2013. A cottage food operation, as allowed by SB206, means a natural person who manufactures or prepares food items in a non-food establishment setting for sale directly to an end consumer. Gross sales from a cottage food operation may not exceed $35,000 annually.

Food Establishment Operations

Environmental Health Food Establishment Operations staff is responsible for the regulation and inspection of food establishments in Clark County. Once a health permit to operate a food establishment is approved through the Plan Review process, the permitted food establishment is inspected periodically by health district staff to assure ongoing compliance with pertinent sections of these regulations.

Plan Review – Aquatic Facility
