Tobacco 21

On December 20, 2019, the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act was amended to raise the federal minimum age of sale of tobacco products from 18 to 21 years. It is now illegal for a retailer to sell any tobacco product – including cigarettes, cigar and electronic vaping products to anyone under 21. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will provide additional details on this issue as they become available.

Hepatitis A cases have been steadily increasing in Clark County. Between January 1 and June 30, 2019, there were 49 outbreak-associated cases of hepatitis A. In 2018 there were 39 cases, in 2017 there were 13 cases, and in 2016 there were 12 cases. Of the outbreak cases reported in 2019, 94 percent were injection and/or non-injection drug users and 80 percent were among those experiencing homelessness.
