As COVID-19 case counts and the positivity rate continues to increase in our community, the Southern Nevada Health District is now recommending both unvaccinated and vaccinated people wear masks in crowded indoor public places where they may have contact with others who are not fully vaccinated.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting 771 new COVID-19 cases today, 51 hospitalizations and 13 deaths. The increase in cases serves as a reminder that the pandemic is not over. The Health District encourages everyone age 12 and older to get vaccinated. Unvaccinated individuals should continue to wear face masks and practice social distancing and seek testing if they have symptoms. Unvaccinated people who have attended large events or gatherings are at a higher risk of infection.
The Southern Nevada Health District urges parents and guardians to bring their kindergartners and 7th graders for their mandatory school vaccines before the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 9. The Health District’s immunization clinic is giving away free backpacks stuffed with school supplies to the first 500 kids at our clinics starting Monday, July 12. The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting a total of 2,005,236 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Clark County as of July 2. The total number of vaccinations initiated is 1,150,695; the number of vaccinations completed is 946,421.
With the approach of the July 4th holiday and COVID-19 cases on the rise in Clark County, the Southern Nevada Health District and local officials are reminding residents to take precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19 and to get vaccinated.
Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is reporting 257,961 cases of COVID-19 in Clark County, an increase of 740 cases since yesterday. The Health District is also reporting an additional three deaths, bringing the total to 4,483. The community’s COVID-19 7-day test positivity rate is also on the rise, and these factors serve as a reminder for the public that the pandemic is not over. It is important to continue to take steps to protect themselves and others, including getting fully vaccinated and getting tested.

The Southern Nevada Health District’s Texas Station COVID-19 vaccine and testing site will be closed on Sunday, May 30, and Monday, May 31, for the Memorial Day holiday. All services at the site will resume on Tuesday, June 1, at 7 a.m.
Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is reporting more than a million first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Clark County. As of May 25, more than 1,002,047 people have received their first dose of the vaccine at sites throughout the community. Of those vaccinated, 785,182 have been fully vaccinated and more than 1,713,609 doses have been administered.
The Southern Nevada Health District’s COVID-19 testing site located at UNLV’s Stan Fulton Building will close on Thursday, May 27 at noon. Beginning Tuesday, June 1, adults and children 12 and older can receive their COVID-19 vaccination at 16 high schools and middle schools across the Las Vegas Valley in an effort to ensure vaccine sites are convenient and accessible throughout the community. The Southern Nevada Health District will provide first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at four schools simultaneously for two days at each location. Second doses will be available at those same schools 21 days later. The late-afternoon clinics are designed to make it easier for people to take their shot on the way home from work. The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting five additional probable cases linked to its investigation of acute non-viral hepatitis illness in Clark County residents and the death of one person who was identified as a probable case. The patient who died was a woman in her 60s with underlying medical conditions and is one of the five new probable cases reported. This brings the total to 16 probable and one suspect case.
As of May 19, 2021, there have been 970,068 COVID-19 doses initiated, 758,057 doses completed, and a total of 1,660,681 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is also reporting 249,295 cases of COVID-19 in Clark County, an increase of 284 since yesterday, and 4,370 deaths, an increase of four from yesterday. The case counts reported are only one measure of how the community is doing. The COVID-19 positivity test rate is declining, and these trends will be monitored as the community prepares to return to pre-pandemic occupancy guidelines on June 1.

On Monday, May 10, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration expanded the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to include adolescents 12-15 years of age. Today, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) met to make final recommendations for the use of the vaccine for adolescents in this age group. Based on the final recommendations of the ACIP, the Southern Nevada Health District will begin administering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 12 and older at Health District sites. The Southern Nevada Health District has identified the first known case of the B.1.617.2 variant in Clark County. The B.1.617.2 variant was first identified in India and is considered a variant of concern. The variant was detected locally in a sample tested by the Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory. The public health laboratory conducts sequencing as part of ongoing surveillance efforts to detect variants that may be circulating in Clark County.
Southern Nevada Health District and Clark County officials offered a preview of the valley’s newest drive-through COVID-19 clinic located at the Texas Station Hotel & Casino. The vaccination site fully opens to the public on Tuesday at 7 a.m. and will also offer COVID-19 testing services. The site will off the Pfizer and Janssen vaccines.
Southern Nevada’s first large-scale drive-through COVID-19 vaccine clinic will open tomorrow at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The drive-through will operate Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the capacity to administer more than a thousand vaccines each day. First and second doses of the vaccine will be available through the drive-through. Appointments for people 16 years of age and older are available at www.snhd.info/covid-vaccine.

In March, the Southern Nevada Health District announced it was working with its federal partners to investigate reports of acute non-viral hepatitis in Clark County.
Southern Nevada Health District and Clark County officials provided a COVID-19 update today. The community is at a critical time in its response to the pandemic. As the Health District and its partners transition to local control, continued vaccination efforts and other recommended prevention strategies are integral to the efforts to stop the pandemic.
As of April 15, 2021, there have been 786,066 COVID-19 doses initiated, 504,475 doses completed, and a total of 1,239,701 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. This Tuesday, April 13, a record number of vaccines were administered at both the Las Vegas Convention Center and Cashman Center clinics. More than 7,700 vaccines were given at Cashman Center, and more than 6,000 at the Convention Center location. This has been a tremendous undertaking, and it is due to the hard work of staff, partners, and the public’s commitment to their health and the health of the community that so many are already fully vaccinated.
Today the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and FDA recommended a pause in the use of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine while they review six reports of cases of a rare type of blood clot that occurred in individuals who received the vaccine. In keeping with the recommendations of the CDC and FDA, the Southern Nevada Health District has stopped administering the vaccine in its clinics and advised its community partners to do the same.
The first known cases of the Brazilian COVID-19 variant, known as P.1, have been detected in Clark County. The Southern Nevada Health District received notification about one case from the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory (NSPHL) and information about two cases were forwarded from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Southern Nevadans reached a new milestone in their unparalleled response to the COVID-19 pandemic as more than one million doses of vaccine have been given in Clark County. As of April 5, the Southern Nevada Health District, Clark County, University Medical Center, the Nevada National Guard, the local cities, EMS providers, pharmacies and other community partners have initiated 663,905 doses of the vaccine, completed 362,208 doses, and administered a total of 1,026,113 COVID-19 vaccines.
Beginning Monday, April 5, everyone in Nevada ages 16 and older will be eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 testing site at UNLV’s Stan Fulton Building, 801 E. Flamingo Road, will be closed Sunday, April 4 for Easter Sunday. Testing resumes at 8 a.m. Monday, April 5. Testing is available at this site seven days per week from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Appointments for testing are recommended and can be scheduled through University Medical Center’s website, www.umcsn.com. People who have no internet access can call UMC at (702) 789-5160 to schedule a testing appointment.
The Southern Nevada Health District is offering drive-through COVID-19 testing on Wednesday, April 7, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Allegiant Stadium. Testing will occur in Lot H which is located off Dean Martin Drive via Gate 10. Each person getting tested can be pre-registered at www.snhd.info/get-tested/allegiant.
The Southern Nevada Health District has added new vaccine tabs to its COVID-19 Dashboard that includes ZIP code maps and vaccine characteristics. As of March 3, 2021, there have been 489,600 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. (325,120 first doses and 164,480 second doses.) Eligibility was expanded this week to include all the remaining categories within the Frontline Community Support Group and to the Frontline Supply Chain & Logistics Group. In addition to people in these occupation categories, groups currently eligible to receive the vaccine include people 65 years of age and older, health care workers, and those in the public safety and security frontline group.
Beginning tomorrow, March 2, vaccine eligibility in Clark County will be expanded to all groups within Frontline Community Support and Frontline Supply Chain & Logistics. In addition to people in these occupational categories, groups currently eligible to receive the vaccine include people 65 years of age and older, health care workers, and those in the public safety and security frontline group.
The Cashman Center COVID-19 vaccination site will begin offering second doses of the vaccine to people who are eligible on Tuesday, February 16. Second doses of the vaccine will be available to people by appointment only. Those eligible for appointments at this site include patients who received their first dose of Moderna vaccine at a Health District or partner clinic no sooner than 28 days prior as well as those who received their first dose of Pfizer at a Health District or partner clinic no sooner than 21 days prior.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting a seventh case of the new B.1.1.7 variant has been detected in Clark County. This case is a male in his 30s and a visitor to Clark County. The individual has been isolating and was not hospitalized. This case has not been linked to the previously reported cases.
As of February 9, 2021, there have been 243,897 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. (203,477 first doses and 40,420 second doses.) The vaccine is being distributed in phases, according to the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Health District’s distribution plan mirrors the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health’s COVID-19 Vaccination Playbook and is based on risk and level of exposure. To date, the Health District has received 151,665 doses of COVID-19 vaccine for distribution in Clark County.
The Cashman Center COVID-19 vaccine clinic will have additional first-dose appointments available for Saturday, Feb. 6 and Sunday, Feb. 7 for people who are currently eligible to receive vaccine. The Southern Nevada Health District has notified people who made first dose appointments at the Las Vegas Convention Center Second Dose Clinic that their appointments have been canceled. As a result, they will be able to provide vaccine to second dose walk-in patients for the next four weeks. Walk-in patients who are eligible this week received their first dose of Moderna vaccine between January 4-9, 2021. Patients will be served based on vaccine availability.
Clark County and Southern Nevada Health District officials announced that the Cashman Center COVID-19 vaccination site will be open to offer appointment-only vaccinations Monday, Jan. 25, through Saturday, Jan. 30, to people age 70 and older, and other individuals currently eligible to receive the vaccine in the health care workforce, public safety and security, and frontline community support groups.
Today, the Southern Nevada Health District received 12,675 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer. The initial shipments received by the Health District are being delivered to hospitals to be administered to health care personnel.
LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Harm Reduction Alliance (SNHRA) is hosting its fourth International Overdose Awareness Day event between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Monday, August 31. Today, the Southern Nevada Health District reported 1,021 new cases of COVID-19. Daily case counts reflect the number of newly confirmed cases received from a variety of laboratory sources and do not reflect testing dates or symptom onset for cases.
Mosquitoes that tested positive as part of the Southern Nevada Health District Mosquito Surveillance Program’s trapping activities mark the first appearance of West Nile virus in Clark County this season. The mosquitoes were trapped in the 89120 ZIP code.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting the first confirmed case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) in Clark County. The patient is a child under the age of 4 who tested positive for COVID-19. The child did require hospitalization but has been discharged and is recovering.

We have recently learned that one of our own employees has tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first confirmed case of the virus at the Southern Nevada Health District.
The Southern Nevada Health District is implementing a text and email-based notification system to assist in notifying individuals who have traveled to areas where transmission of COVID-19 is widespread, or who are contacts of a confirmed case. Some individuals may also be contacted by telephone in addition to receiving a text or e-mail notification.

There is currently no vaccine to protect against COVID-19 and no medications are approved to treat it. Social distancing has been shown to be effective in slowing the spread of disease. LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Health District received a report of a positive case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in an individual who accessed services at Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and the Homeless Courtyard operated by the City of Las Vegas. The client is a male who reported accessing services at these facilities while he was symptomatic. The individual is currently asymptomatic and no longer considered a risk of exposure to others.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting two more individuals with 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have died in Clark County. The individuals include a man in his 70s with underlying medical conditions and a woman in her 50s with underlying conditions.

The Southern Nevada Health District today announced three new presumptive positive COVID-19 cases. We’d like to reiterate and emphasize several points of information we feel are critical for the public: The risk of contracting COVID-19 in Southern Nevada remains low for the general public. There are four reported presumptive positive cases in our community, in addition to one confirmed by the CDC, in a population of roughly 2.2 million residents. There is presently no greater risk of contracting COVID-19 in Las Vegas or at The Mirage than there is at any other travel destination in the United States. Close contact is defined as being within six feet of someone who is symptomatic for a prolonged period of time. We are in the process of notifying anyone deemed to have been in close contact with any presumptive positive patients.

The Southern Nevada Health District is announcing the first presumptive positive case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in a Clark County resident. Test results are considered “presumptive positive” until the result is confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The patient is a male in his 50s who is hospitalized and currently in airborne isolation.
The Southern Nevada Health District received notice today from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that a Clark County resident has tested negative for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). While waiting for the test results the patient’s symptoms had resolved and had remained isolated in compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance. The adult patient arrived into the United States from Wuhan, China on January 14 and sought medical care on January 28.
The Southern Nevada Health District announced today that it received a report of a potential case of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in a Clark County resident. The patient is currently in isolation at a local hospital. The patient will be monitored and under medical supervision while testing is conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Currently, there are no confirmed cases of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus in Clark County.

During the 2019 legislative session, Nevada’s clean indoor air law was modernized to protect children and adults from secondhand aerosol from electronic vaping products in most public places and indoor places of employment.
LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting the first West Nile virus death in a Clark County resident. The individual was a female over the age of 50 and had previously been reported as having neuroinvasive illness.
The Southern Nevada Health District has confirmed a fourth case of severe respiratory illness linked to e-cigarettes in a Clark County resident. The individual is over the age of 18. The Health District previously reported cases in an individual under the age of 18 and two over the age of 18. The first case confirmed in Clark County was reported in September 2019. Up to date information on the outbreak is available on the CDC website.

Dr. Joe Iser, Chief Health Officer of the Southern Nevada Health District, announced his retirement from the Southern Nevada Health District today. Dr. Iser has served as the Chief Health Officer since September 2013. His retirement is effective January 3, 2020.
Two additional Clark County residents have been identified as having severe respiratory illness linked to e-cigarette products. The Southern Nevada Health District reports both cases are individuals ages 18 or older.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting Clark County’s first confirmed case of severe respiratory illness linked to e-cigarette products in a person under the age of 18. The youth was hospitalized with respiratory symptoms that met the case definition established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A pulmonary infection has not been identified. The patient was released from the hospital and is recovering.
The Southern Nevada Health District has identified a person with hepatitis A that worked at a 7-Eleven convenience store located at 2910 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89109 (Maryland Parkway and Vegas Valley Drive) while they were potentially infectious to others.
In 2017, there were 464 fatal drug overdoses (excluding alcohol) in Clark County. Opioid-related overdoses and deaths continue to occur across the United States and the world. In an effort to acknowledge those deaths, the Southern Nevada Harm Reduction Alliance (SNHRA) is participating in its 3rd annual International Overdose Awareness Day, from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., Thursday, August 29 at the Chuck Minker Sports Complex, 275 N. Mojave Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89101. The SNHRA will also offer overdose prevention trainings at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Participants will receive a free overdose prevention kit that contains nasal naloxone (Narcan®), the opioid overdose reversal medication, as well as community resources.
The Solid Waste Hearing Officer, under authority granted in Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 444.629, conducts monthly hearings to settle cases involving illegal dumping and other solid waste matters. At the August 19, 2019 hearing, the following cases were adjudicated:
LAS VEGAS - The Southern Nevada Health District is informing individuals and the public who were at different locations listed below that they might have been exposed to a person who was confirmed to have a case of measles. Because measles can be highly contagious, the Health District is advising people who may have been exposed to review their immunization status and contact their health care providers if they are not fully immunized against measles or have not already had the disease. This measles case was reported in a visitor. There have been no additional cases reported in Clark County residents.
In June, the Southern Nevada Health District announced Clark County was experiencing an outbreak of hepatitis A cases. Since November 2018, the Health District has reported 83 outbreak-associated cases of hepatitis A. In the past few years total cases reported have been significantly lower: 39 cases reported in 2018; 13 cases in 2017; and six reported cases in 2016. People who are at increased risk for infection include people who use drugs and those experiencing homelessness. Of the reported cases, more than 92 percent were people who used drugs (injection or non-injection), and more than 80 percent were among people experiencing homelessness. LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting an additional case of West Nile virus, bring the year’s total to 16. The individual is a male over the age of 50 with the neuroinvasive form of the illness. Of the 16 reported cases, 11 have had the more serious, neuroinvasive form of the illness.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting three additional cases of West Nile virus, bring the year’s total to 15. One individual is a female under the age of 50 with the non-neuroinvasive form of the illness. The other two individuals are both male, under the age of 50, with the non-neuroinvasive form of the illness. Of the 15 reported cases, 10 had the more serious, neuroinvasive form of the illness.
LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting Clark County’s 12th case of West Nile virus. The individual is a male over the age of 50 with the neuroinvasive form of the illness. Ten of the 12 cases reported to the Health District have had the more serious, neuroinvasive form of the illness.
The Southern Nevada Health District reports three more Clark County residents have neuroinvasive illness caused by the West Nile virus. All three individuals are male, and over the age of 50. These new cases bring the year’s total to 11. Nine of the 11 cases reported to the Health District had the neuroinvasive form of the illness.
The Southern Nevada Health District’s third annual Environmental Health Expo is a fun event for kids and the whole family. There will be informative and interactive exhibits that include a working model of a milking cow, how to pack a safe lunch, the big 8 food allergens, information about trash and recycling, and mosquito fish and equipment.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting two new cases of West Nile virus in Clark County residents. Both have the more serious, neuroinvasive form of the illness. One individual is a female over the age of 50, and the other is a male under the age of 50. These new cases bring the year’s total to eight. Six of the eight West Nile cases reported to the Health District had neuroinvasive illness.
LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting Clark County’s sixth case of West Nile virus. The individual is a female under the age of 50 who has the neuroinvasive form of the illness. West Nile virus is considered endemic in Clark County, having first been identified in 2005. This new case is a reminder to the public of the importance of preventing mosquito bites and eliminating breeding sources around their homes.
Three more Clark County residents have tested positive for West Nile virus, and the Southern Nevada Health District is reminding the public to take precautions to protect themselves from this potentially serious disease. One individual is a male over the age of 50 who had the non-neuroinvasive form of the illness, and another is a female under the age of 50 who had the neuroinvasive form of the illness. The third individual is a male over the age of 50 who was asymptomatic and is classified as a presumptively viremic donor (PVD).
The Southern Nevada Health District urges parents and guardians to beat the back-to-school rush by bringing their pre-schoolers, kindergartners, and 7th graders for mandatory vaccinations to one of its public health centers. This year, the first day of school for students in Clark County is Monday, August 12.
