Mosquito Surveillance Reports

The Southern Nevada Health District’s Vector Surveillance Program regularly submits mosquito pools to the Nevada Department of Agriculture to test for West Nile virus, St. Louis Encephalitis, and Western Equine Encephalitis.

Influenza Surveillance Archive

On October 18, 1999 the Southern Nevada Health District , Office of Epidemiology implemented an Influenza Surveillance Program. The primary objective of the program was to monitor influenza-like illness (ILI), which is defined as a patient with fever >100°F (37.8° C) and cough or sore throat.

Viral Respiratory Disease Surveillance (PEWSS Reports)

The Pediatric Early Warning Sentinel Surveillance (PEWSS) is a year-round surveillance system developed by the Southern Nevada Health District to identify the pathogens responsible for respiratory disease circulating in the community. Each week, several sentinel health care providers submit nasal swabs to the Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory (SNPHL) for testing. The specimens are collected from children who present with a fever >100°F accompanied by a cough and/or sore throat.

Annual Recycling Reports

The State of Nevada has set a goal to recycle 25 percent of all municipal solid waste for counties with populations over 100,000. Per NAC 444A.140 external link the health district is required to complete a recycling survey and report the findings to the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) by April 1.
