In Clark County, approximately 11 percent of adults have been diagnosed with diabetes, one of the most prevalent diseases in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 34 million people in the United States have diabetes. American Diabetes Month is an opportunity to remind people who are living with diabetes as well as those at risk of developing it that there are options available to protect their health.
As of October 28, there have been 331,107 cases of COVID-19 reported in Clark County. The Health District is also reporting the seven-day average of new positive cases as of October 24 is 293 cases, while the 7-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 6.9 percent. A total of 5,963 Clark County residents have died from COVID-19.
In keeping with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations, the Southern Nevada Health District is urging all eligible people to get a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Booster doses are now available at Health District clinic locations.
What are the most pressing public health issues facing Clark County? That’s the question nearly 100 community members asked at a recent Community Health Assessment Prioritization meeting. The meeting was a continuation of Southern Nevada Health District and partner efforts to identify strategic priorities for the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), a guide for public health activities and interventions through the next three years.
As of October 22, there have been 329,006 cases of COVID-19 reported in Clark County. The Health District is also reporting the seven-day average of new positive cases as of October 18 is 266.0. A total of 5,900 Clark County residents have died from COVID-19.
Booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine are available at Southern Nevada Health District and community vaccination clinics for people who are eligible. Booster doses of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine have not been authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and are not currently being administered at vaccination clinics. The FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are both expected to meet later this week. The FDA is meeting to decide authorization of boosters and the CDC will make final recommendations for administering the vaccines. The Health District will begin administering the vaccine in accordance with CDC recommendations once all steps at the federal, state and local levels have been completed.
As of October 15, there have been 326,538 cases of COVID-19 reported in Clark County. The Health District is also reporting the seven-day average of new positive cases as of October 11 is 312.9. A total of 5,835 Clark County residents have died from COVID-19.
To commemorate National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD), the Southern Nevada Health District and the Southern Nevada HIV Awareness Coalition will offer rapid HIV testing, information about pre- and post-HIV exposure treatment options (PreP/PEP), as well as substance use treatment and resources from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m., Friday, October 15 at Chicanos por la Causa, 555 N. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89101.
The Southern Nevada Health District’s East Las Vegas Public Health Center will close at its current location on Wednesday, Nov. 10 and reopen Thursday, Nov. 18 at 2950 E. Bonanza Rd., Las Vegas NV 89101. This location will serve clients through Spring 2022 when the public health center moves into its permanent facility at 2830 E. Fremont St., Las Vegas, NV 89104.

The Southern Nevada Health District’s COVID-19 testing and vaccine clinic site located at the College of Southern Nevada Henderson campus located at 700 College Dr., Henderson, NV 89002 will be temporarily relocated to the Student Union on Thursday, October 7, and Friday, October 8. Services will resume at its current location in expanded modular units off Heather Dr. near Building C and the Student Union on Tuesday, October 12.
The Southern Nevada Health District continues to provide Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine booster doses to eligible individuals. More than 70 percent of people 12 years of age and older in Clark County have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccines. This milestone means more Southern Nevadans have taken steps to protect themselves and others from COVID-19.
The Southern Nevada Health District will begin offering Pfizer COVID-19 booster doses to people who are eligible at its clinics beginning Tuesday, September 28.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released updated guidance recommending booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine for people who are at higher risk for COVID-19. At this time, booster doses are only available to people who received the Pfizer vaccine. The CDC is recommending the following groups receive booster doses at least six months after they have completed their two-dose series of the Pfizer vaccine:
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration held a meeting to discuss the issue of administering additional doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the general public, and specifically, recommendations related to administering booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The FDA advisory committee did vote not to recommend boosters for everyone 16 and older; however, it did recommend a booster for individuals age 65 and older or those who are at a high risk of severe COVID-19 illness. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices will make final recommendations for the use of the vaccine. The Southern Nevada Health District would then begin administering booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine in accordance with CDC guidance.
One dollar for a pound of fresh fruit or a bundle of veggies? That’s about how much people will pay at the Veggie Buck Truck at the pop-up produce market at the Bonneville Transit Center (BTC). This pilot program is being offered by the Southern Nevada Health District’s Office of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion in partnership with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), Three Square Food Bank and Vegas Root’s Veggie Buck Truck to increase access to low-cost fresh fruits and vegetables.

The Southern Nevada Health District’s weekly report regarding COVID-19 infections after vaccination has been expanded and now includes additional information, including trends. The report is available at www.snhd.info/covid-breakthrough. As of September 2, the Health District has received reports of 7,634 fully vaccinated individuals testing positive for COVID-19. This represents 544 cases out of every 100,000 fully vaccinated people. The Health District is reporting a total of 112 deaths that have occurred in fully vaccinated Clark County residents. This represents eight deaths out of every 100,000 fully vaccinated people. By comparison, the case rate is 562 deaths per 100,000 unvaccinated people.
Mosquitoes trapped by the Southern Nevada Health District’s Mosquito Surveillance Program in the 89014 ZIP code have tested positive for West Nile virus, the first this season in Clark County. The Health District is reminding people that “yes” there are mosquitoes in Southern Nevada, and to protect themselves from mosquito bites when they are outdoors.
The Southern Nevada Health District worked with multiple partners and individuals to conduct an in-depth analysis of the community’s health-related needs and strengths as well as resources available to address and improve health outcomes in Clark County. The result, the 2020-2021 Community Health Assessment (CHA), is now available on the Healthy Southern Nevada website.
The Southern Nevada Health District is making testing more accessible with locations now available at mobile sites at the following locations: The Jimmie Hughes Campus (Mesquite), Sahara West Library, Windmill Library, Enterprise Library, Sunrise Library, Whitney Library, West Las Vegas Library and Aliante Library.
The Southern Nevada Health District’s Mesquite Public Health Center has moved to a new location. Services will reopen at the Jimmie Hughes Campus, 150 N. Yucca St., Mesquite, NV 89027. The public health center is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and closed for lunch between noon and 1 p.m. each day.
The Southern Nevada Harm Reduction Alliance (SNHRA) is hosting its fifth International Overdose Awareness Day event between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 31 at Chuck Minker Sports Complex 275 N. Mojave Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89101. The event provides an opportunity for participants to acknowledge the loss of friends and loved ones to fatal drug overdoses and will include a panel discussion with community members discussing their overdose-related experiences. A naloxone (Narcan®) training will be offered, and attendees will have the opportunity to pick up overdose prevention kits.
Unfortunately, people are turning to untested, unauthorized, and in many cases unsafe treatments for COVID-19. Recently, there has been increased interest in a drug called ivermectin. Ivermectin is a drug used in the United States to treat or prevent parasites in animals and for specific uses in humans. The doses and forms for humans and animals are different. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been receiving reports of patients who have been hospitalized after self-medicating with ivermectin intended for horses.

Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is reporting the tragic milestone that more than 5,000 people in Clark County have died due to COVID-19.
During a 24-hour period on August 12, 2021, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported five suspected fentanyl-related overdose deaths occurred in Clark County, and the Southern Nevada Health District is alerting the public about the ongoing risk in the community. Between January and May, there were 92 deaths among Clark County residents, a 39 percent increase over the same period in 2020 with 66 deaths. In 2020, there were a total of 193 fentanyl deaths; 72 deaths were reported in 2019.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting a total of 2,234,626 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Clark County as of August 13. The total number of vaccinations initiated is 1,302,557; the number of vaccinations completed is 1,035,172. Approximately 69.45 percent of adults age 18 and older have initiated vaccination. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s updated guidance is aligned with the Southern Nevada Health District’s previous recommendation for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people to wear masks in crowded indoor public places where they may have contact with others who are not fully vaccinated. Current Health District guidelines for schools recommend that all students and personnel wear masks during high levels of community transmission. The Health District’s recommendations were made in response to increasing case counts and the COVID-19 positivity rate in Clark County. Per State of Nevada Emergency Directive 045, Nevada’s statewide face-covering requirements are based on the recommendations issued by the CDC.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting a total of 2,107,647 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Clark County as of July 22. The total number of vaccinations initiated is 1,219,043; the number of vaccinations completed is 986,609. Approximately 65 percent of adults age 18 and older have initiated vaccination. As COVID-19 case counts and the positivity rate continues to increase in our community, the Southern Nevada Health District is now recommending both unvaccinated and vaccinated people wear masks in crowded indoor public places where they may have contact with others who are not fully vaccinated.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting 771 new COVID-19 cases today, 51 hospitalizations and 13 deaths. The increase in cases serves as a reminder that the pandemic is not over. The Health District encourages everyone age 12 and older to get vaccinated. Unvaccinated individuals should continue to wear face masks and practice social distancing and seek testing if they have symptoms. Unvaccinated people who have attended large events or gatherings are at a higher risk of infection.
The Southern Nevada Health District urges parents and guardians to bring their kindergartners and 7th graders for their mandatory school vaccines before the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 9. The Health District’s immunization clinic is giving away free backpacks stuffed with school supplies to the first 500 kids at our clinics starting Monday, July 12. The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting a total of 2,005,236 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Clark County as of July 2. The total number of vaccinations initiated is 1,150,695; the number of vaccinations completed is 946,421.
With the approach of the July 4th holiday and COVID-19 cases on the rise in Clark County, the Southern Nevada Health District and local officials are reminding residents to take precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19 and to get vaccinated.
Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is reporting 257,961 cases of COVID-19 in Clark County, an increase of 740 cases since yesterday. The Health District is also reporting an additional three deaths, bringing the total to 4,483. The community’s COVID-19 7-day test positivity rate is also on the rise, and these factors serve as a reminder for the public that the pandemic is not over. It is important to continue to take steps to protect themselves and others, including getting fully vaccinated and getting tested.

Southern Nevadans now have the unique opportunity to get COVID-19 vaccines at a pop-up clinic offered by the Southern Nevada Health District, Clark County, and their partners in Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, beginning today, Thursday, June 10 through Sunday, June 13, and again Thursday, June 17 through Sunday, June 20. The COVID-19 vaccines are being administered in the Modelo Cantina Club overlooking the field.

Southern Nevadans will have the unique opportunity to get COVID-19 vaccines in Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, at clinics scheduled for Thursday, June 10 through Sunday, June 13 and Thursday, June 17 through Sunday, June 20.
The Southern Nevada Health District’s Texas Station COVID-19 vaccine and testing site will be closed on Sunday, May 30, and Monday, May 31, for the Memorial Day holiday. All services at the site will resume on Tuesday, June 1, at 7 a.m.
Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is reporting more than a million first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Clark County. As of May 25, more than 1,002,047 people have received their first dose of the vaccine at sites throughout the community. Of those vaccinated, 785,182 have been fully vaccinated and more than 1,713,609 doses have been administered.
The Southern Nevada Health District’s COVID-19 testing site located at UNLV’s Stan Fulton Building will close on Thursday, May 27 at noon. Beginning Tuesday, June 1, adults and children 12 and older can receive their COVID-19 vaccination at 16 high schools and middle schools across the Las Vegas Valley in an effort to ensure vaccine sites are convenient and accessible throughout the community. The Southern Nevada Health District will provide first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at four schools simultaneously for two days at each location. Second doses will be available at those same schools 21 days later. The late-afternoon clinics are designed to make it easier for people to take their shot on the way home from work. The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting five additional probable cases linked to its investigation of acute non-viral hepatitis illness in Clark County residents and the death of one person who was identified as a probable case. The patient who died was a woman in her 60s with underlying medical conditions and is one of the five new probable cases reported. This brings the total to 16 probable and one suspect case.
As of May 19, 2021, there have been 970,068 COVID-19 doses initiated, 758,057 doses completed, and a total of 1,660,681 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is also reporting 249,295 cases of COVID-19 in Clark County, an increase of 284 since yesterday, and 4,370 deaths, an increase of four from yesterday. The case counts reported are only one measure of how the community is doing. The COVID-19 positivity test rate is declining, and these trends will be monitored as the community prepares to return to pre-pandemic occupancy guidelines on June 1.
The Southern Nevada Health District and its partners continue to make it convenient for people in Clark County to get their COVID-19 vaccine by offering locations throughout the valley.
On Monday, May 10, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration expanded the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to include adolescents 12-15 years of age. Today, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) met to make final recommendations for the use of the vaccine for adolescents in this age group. Based on the final recommendations of the ACIP, the Southern Nevada Health District will begin administering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 12 and older at Health District sites. The Southern Nevada Health District has identified the first known case of the B.1.617.2 variant in Clark County. The B.1.617.2 variant was first identified in India and is considered a variant of concern. The variant was detected locally in a sample tested by the Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory. The public health laboratory conducts sequencing as part of ongoing surveillance efforts to detect variants that may be circulating in Clark County.
Southern Nevada Health District and Clark County officials offered a preview of the valley’s newest drive-through COVID-19 clinic located at the Texas Station Hotel & Casino. The vaccination site fully opens to the public on Tuesday at 7 a.m. and will also offer COVID-19 testing services. The site will off the Pfizer and Janssen vaccines.
Southern Nevada’s first large-scale drive-through COVID-19 vaccine clinic will open tomorrow at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The drive-through will operate Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the capacity to administer more than a thousand vaccines each day. In March, the Southern Nevada Health District announced it was working with its federal partners to investigate reports of acute non-viral hepatitis in Clark County.
Southern Nevada Health District and Clark County officials provided a COVID-19 update today. The community is at a critical time in its response to the pandemic. As the Health District and its partners transition to local control, continued vaccination efforts and other recommended prevention strategies are integral to the efforts to stop the pandemic.
As of April 15, 2021, there have been 786,066 COVID-19 doses initiated, 504,475 doses completed, and a total of 1,239,701 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. This Tuesday, April 13, a record number of vaccines were administered at both the Las Vegas Convention Center and Cashman Center clinics. More than 7,700 vaccines were given at Cashman Center, and more than 6,000 at the Convention Center location. This has been a tremendous undertaking, and it is due to the hard work of staff, partners, and the public’s commitment to their health and the health of the community that so many are already fully vaccinated.
Today the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and FDA recommended a pause in the use of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine while they review six reports of cases of a rare type of blood clot that occurred in individuals who received the vaccine. In keeping with the recommendations of the CDC and FDA, the Southern Nevada Health District has stopped administering the vaccine in its clinics and advised its community partners to do the same.
The first known cases of the Brazilian COVID-19 variant, known as P.1, have been detected in Clark County. The Southern Nevada Health District received notification about one case from the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory (NSPHL) and information about two cases were forwarded from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Southern Nevadans reached a new milestone in their unparalleled response to the COVID-19 pandemic as more than one million doses of vaccine have been given in Clark County. As of April 5, the Southern Nevada Health District, Clark County, University Medical Center, the Nevada National Guard, the local cities, EMS providers, pharmacies and other community partners have initiated 663,905 doses of the vaccine, completed 362,208 doses, and administered a total of 1,026,113 COVID-19 vaccines.
Beginning Monday, April 5, everyone in Nevada ages 16 and older will be eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine. COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and free, and the Southern Nevada Health District is urging everyone who can get vaccinated to make an appointment to do so at one of its sites or a community partner clinic. Beginning April 5, all Nevadans age 16 and older will be eligible to receive the vaccine. The COVID-19 testing site at UNLV’s Stan Fulton Building, 801 E. Flamingo Road, will be closed Sunday, April 4 for Easter Sunday. Testing resumes at 8 a.m. Monday, April 5. Testing is available at this site seven days per week from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Appointments for testing are recommended and can be scheduled through University Medical Center’s website, www.umcsn.com. People who have no internet access can call UMC at (702) 789-5160 to schedule a testing appointment.
The Southern Nevada Health District is offering drive-through COVID-19 testing on Wednesday, April 7, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Allegiant Stadium. Testing will occur in Lot H which is located off Dean Martin Drive via Gate 10. Each person getting tested can be pre-registered at www.snhd.info/get-tested/allegiant.
The Southern Nevada Health District has added new vaccine tabs to its COVID-19 Dashboard that includes ZIP code maps and vaccine characteristics. The Dashboard is available on the Health District COVID-19 website at http://covid.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/cases/ and the vaccine tabs will be updated Monday through Friday each week.
As of March 3, 2021, there have been 489,600 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. (325,120 first doses and 164,480 second doses.) Eligibility was expanded this week to include all the remaining categories within the Frontline Community Support Group and to the Frontline Supply Chain & Logistics Group. In addition to people in these occupation categories, groups currently eligible to receive the vaccine include people 65 years of age and older, health care workers, and those in the public safety and security frontline group.
Beginning tomorrow, March 2, vaccine eligibility in Clark County will be expanded to all groups within Frontline Community Support and Frontline Supply Chain & Logistics. In addition to people in these occupational categories, groups currently eligible to receive the vaccine include people 65 years of age and older, health care workers, and those in the public safety and security frontline group.
The Cashman Center COVID-19 vaccination site will begin offering second doses of the vaccine to people who are eligible on Tuesday, February 16. Second doses of the vaccine will be available to people by appointment only. Those eligible for appointments at this site include patients who received their first dose of Moderna vaccine at a Health District or partner clinic no sooner than 28 days prior as well as those who received their first dose of Pfizer at a Health District or partner clinic no sooner than 21 days prior.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting a seventh case of the new B.1.1.7 variant has been detected in Clark County. This case is a male in his 30s and a visitor to Clark County. The individual has been isolating and was not hospitalized. This case has not been linked to the previously reported cases.
As of February 9, 2021, there have been 243,897 COVID-19 vaccines administered in Clark County. (203,477 first doses and 40,420 second doses.) The vaccine is being distributed in phases, according to the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Health District’s distribution plan mirrors the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health’s COVID-19 Vaccination Playbook and is based on risk and level of exposure. To date, the Health District has received 151,665 doses of COVID-19 vaccine for distribution in Clark County.
The Cashman Center COVID-19 vaccine clinic will have additional first-dose appointments available for Saturday, Feb. 6 and Sunday, Feb. 7 for people who are currently eligible to receive vaccine. The Southern Nevada Health District has notified people who made first dose appointments at the Las Vegas Convention Center Second Dose Clinic that their appointments have been canceled. As a result, they will be able to provide vaccine to second dose walk-in patients for the next four weeks. Walk-in patients who are eligible this week received their first dose of Moderna vaccine between January 4-9, 2021. Patients will be served based on vaccine availability.
Clark County and Southern Nevada Health District officials announced that the Cashman Center COVID-19 vaccination site will be open to offer appointment-only vaccinations Monday, Jan. 25, through Saturday, Jan. 30, to people age 70 and older, and other individuals currently eligible to receive the vaccine in the health care workforce, public safety and security, and frontline community support groups.
Today, the Southern Nevada Health District received 12,675 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer. The initial shipments received by the Health District are being delivered to hospitals to be administered to health care personnel.
LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Harm Reduction Alliance (SNHRA) is hosting its fourth International Overdose Awareness Day event between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Monday, August 31. The event is an opportunity to acknowledge the loss of friends and loved ones to fatal drug overdoses and will include a panel discussion with community members to discuss their overdose-related experiences. Today, the Southern Nevada Health District reported 1,021 new cases of COVID-19. Daily case counts reflect the number of newly confirmed cases received from a variety of laboratory sources and do not reflect testing dates or symptom onset for cases.
Mosquitoes that tested positive as part of the Southern Nevada Health District Mosquito Surveillance Program’s trapping activities mark the first appearance of West Nile virus in Clark County this season. The mosquitoes were trapped in the 89120 ZIP code.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting the first confirmed case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) in Clark County. The patient is a child under the age of 4 who tested positive for COVID-19. The child did require hospitalization but has been discharged and is recovering.
The Southern Nevada Health District is seeking participation by members of the public for the 2020 Community Health Assessment (CHA), which identifies community-wide, health-related needs and strengths, as well as available resources to address and improve health outcomes.

We have recently learned that one of our own employees has tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first confirmed case of the virus at the Southern Nevada Health District.
The Southern Nevada Health District is implementing a text and email-based notification system to assist in notifying individuals who have traveled to areas where transmission of COVID-19 is widespread, or who are contacts of a confirmed case. Some individuals may also be contacted by telephone in addition to receiving a text or e-mail notification.
The Southern Nevada District Board of Health is holding an emergency meeting on March 31, 2020, at 9 a.m. The agenda item for consideration is Petition #42-20 Approval of Agreement of COVID-19 Alternate Care Facility at 280 S. Decatur Blvd.

The Health District’s Information Line is now available seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at (702) 759-INFO (4636). There is currently no vaccine to protect against COVID-19 and no medications are approved to treat it. Social distancing has been shown to be effective in slowing the spread of disease. People should be staying home and following the directives put in place by Governor Steve Sisolak to limit public gatherings to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Health District received a report of a positive case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in an individual who accessed services at Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and the Homeless Courtyard operated by the City of Las Vegas. The client is a male who reported accessing services at these facilities while he was symptomatic. The individual is currently asymptomatic and no longer considered a risk of exposure to others.
The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting two more individuals with 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have died in Clark County. The individuals include a man in his 70s with underlying medical conditions and a woman in her 50s with underlying conditions.
Effective Tuesday, March 24, 2020, all Health District immunization services will be provided at the East Las Vegas Public Health Center located at 570 N. Nellis Blvd., Ste. D-1. Currently, there have been four reported deaths from COVID-19 in Clark County.
