The Southern Nevada Health District will begin offering COVID-19 vaccines to children 6 months to 5 years of age beginning Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at its clinics. The Health District will initially have the Pfizer vaccine, a three-dose series, available in its clinics. The announcement follows recommendations by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices for both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines and authorization for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

On Saturday, June 18, teams from the Southern Nevada Health District will begin interviewing household members in Clark County to assess their access to COVID-19 testing services and resources and provide feedback to response staff and partners on the status of current efforts to inform and educate the community so that corrective actions can be implemented. These neighborhood surveys are part of the Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response (CASPER) technique to gather information to assist in emergency planning and response efforts. The goal of this CASPER survey is to gain a greater understanding of the access Clark County residents had to COVID-19 services and resources, particularly those who were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.

The Southern Nevada Health District’s COVID-19 Dashboard has been updated to include COVID-19 reinfection data from June 2020. For surveillance purposes, the Health District reports COVID-19 reinfections as a positive COVID-19 polymerase chain (PCR) test result collected at least 90 days after an initial positive PCR test. As of June 13, the Health District has identified 24,914 COVID-19 reinfections. As compared to first-time infections, reinfections remain rare; however, the number of reinfections increased during the Omicron wave between December 2021 and January 2022.

Clark County has reached a high community level for COVID-19, and the Southern Nevada Health District is strongly recommending individuals wear masks when in public indoor places and they stay up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines. People who have symptoms or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 should get tested, and people who are sick should stay home and isolated from others in their household. Those who are at higher risk for severe illness may need to take additional precautions. This can include having a plan for rapid testing if needed and talking to your health care provider about options for treatments with oral antivirals and monoclonal antibodies.

Southern Nevadans now have expanded access to COVID-19 testing with the opening of self-test vending machines at two locations.. The Southern Nevada Health District and its partners installed two vending machines that dispense at-home self-test kits at the Regional Transportation Commission’s (RTC) Bonneville Transit Center (lobby), 101 E. Bonneville Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89101, and the Mesa View Regional Hospital (emergency department lobby), 1299 Bertha Howe Ave., Mesquite, NV 89027. Residents have already started to access test kits at both locations. A new location for a third vending machine will be available soon.

The Southern Nevada Health District continues to see an uptick in COVID-19 cases and positivity rates. The COVID-19 Community Level in Clark County is at the medium level. The Health District reminds Clark County residents to continue to take steps to prevent COVID-19 as the summer and travel seasons begin.

As Clark County residents are celebrating school graduations and preparing to spend Memorial Day with family and friends, the Southern Nevada Health District is encouraging everyone to be more cautious as COVID-19 case counts and the positivity rate continues to increase. Individuals can protect themselves and others by wearing a well-fitting mask in public indoor places, especially those who are immunocompromised or have illnesses that increase their risk of getting seriously ill or requiring hospitalization from COVID-19.

As the COVID-19 declarations of emergencies come to an end in Clark County and Nevada, the Southern Nevada Health District is committed to continuing to offer vaccine and testing resources, and ongoing disease surveillance, protection and control guidance to the public and its partners.

Starting today, the Southern Nevada Health District is making COVID-19 vaccine booster doses available to children 5 through 11 years of age at all its vaccine clinics. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) amended the emergency use authorization for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine today allowing for the expanded use of this vaccine.

This week, the Southern Nevada Health District is reporting 8,421 Clark County residents have died from COVID-19, an increase of 66. Health District staff have been performing and ongoing data review which includes performing a data linkage between cases reported in the system and death certificate data. As a result of this review, 85 deaths were added to the Health District’s report — 71 from the review process, and 19 were removed. The breakdown of the backlog by date of death is included below:

This week, the Southern Nevada Health District is reporting 8,355 Clark County residents have died from COVID-19, an increase of 185. Of those deaths, 178 are the result of a reporting backlog and comprehensive data review by staff.

As of April 4, a total of 499,121 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Clark County. A total of 7,825 Clark County residents have died from COVID-19. The Health District is updating its reporting to include reinfections in case counts; however, due to a change in methodology, this week’s update does not include reinfections. Cases that will be counted as reinfections are individuals who test positive more than 90 days after their initial infection.

On Tuesday, March 29, the Southern Nevada Health District announced that second booster doses are now available at its clinics for people age 50 and older and people age 12 and older who are immunocompromised, provided it has been at least four months since they received their first booster dose. This follows authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and updated recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Second COVID-19 booster doses are now available for people 50 and older and people 12 and older who are immunocompromised at Southern Nevada Health District vaccination clinics. Second boosters were authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its recommendation for certain immunocompromised individuals and people over the age of 50 who received an initial booster dose at least four months previously.

Today, the Southern Nevada Health District, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) and Desert Research Institute (DRI) announced a partnership to detect  early increases of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID) and emerging variants in Southern Nevada through wastewater surveillance. The data will be available on a new dashboard that will be updated weekly at www.snhd.info/covid-data. 

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), Southern Nevada Health District, Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) and Desert Research Institute (DRI) are partnering to detect early increases of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID) and emerging variants in Southern Nevada through wastewater surveillance. The Southern Nevada Health District’s COVID-19 dashboard is updated on a weekly basis beginning today, Wednesday, March 16. The Health District’s weekly update will now include the 7-day average of probable cases and the Risk Metrics section will reflect additional surveillance data based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) new community level transmission guidelines. The weekly dashboard will continue to include total confirmed cases, MIS-C cases, total hospitalizations and deaths as well as the number of cases reported in the past seven days. Additionally, the Health District’s trends, aggregate reports, maps, breakthrough case, and city reports will be posted weekly.

Today, Friday, March 11, is the last daily update to the Southern Nevada Health District’s COVID-19 dashboard. Weekly updates of the Health District’s COVID-19 dashboard, aggregate and trends reports will begin on Wednesday, March 16.

COVID-19 metrics have continued to steadily decline in Clark County, and the Southern Nevada Health District will begin updating its dashboard on a weekly basis. The last daily update to the dashboard will occur on Friday, March 11. The Health District’s COVID-19 dashboard, aggregate and trend reports will be updated and posted each Wednesday, beginning March 16.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently updated its framework for monitoring the level of COVID-19 in communities. The new recommendations are focused on minimizing severe disease, limiting strain on the health care system, and enabling those at highest risk to protect themselves against infection and severe disease.

The drive-thru site at Texas Station, 101 Texas Star Lane off Rancho Drive, last day of operation is Sunday, February 20. To date, the site has administered more than 15,400 tests. Drive-thru testing site appointments can be made on the eTrueNorth website at www.INeedaCOVID19Test.com. People who do not have access to a computer or who have difficulty making their appointments or accessing their test results can call eTrueNorth for assistance at (1-800) 635-8611. Drive-ups are accepted at this location.

The last day of operations for the drive-thru COVID-19 testing site at Texas Station will be Sunday, Feb. 20.  The drive-thru site at UNLV’s Sam Boyd Stadium also will be closed this Sunday and will resume operations Monday through Thursday. The last day of operations for the Sam Boyd site, which offers drive-thru COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, will be Thursday, March 10, officials announced.

Nevada’s mask mandate was lifted on Thursday, February 10. While masks are no longer required in public indoor places, the Health District continues to encourage people to use all the tools they have available to protect themselves and others while disease transmission remains high in the community. Everyone should get fully vaccinated, get a booster when eligible, and stay home when they are sick. While there is no longer a mask mandate in place, masks are proven to be effective at protecting people and lowering the risk of disease transmission. We encourage people to wear well-fitting masks in public indoor spaces for additional protection while disease transmission is high, especially if they are unvaccinated or more at-risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

The Southern Nevada Health District recently added a feature to its COVID-19  testing calendar. People can now see the number of appointments available at many Health District clinics when they visit the site to make an appointment or view the clinic listings.

The last day of operations for the drive-thru COVID-19 testing site at Fiesta Henderson will be Wednesday, February 2, while the drive-thru site at Texas Station is scheduled to operate until February 20, officials announced.

The Southern Nevada Health District confirmed the first reported case of COVID-19 caused by the BA.2 subvariant of the Omicron variant. The Southern Nevada Public Health Laboratory tested the specimen and is continuing to provide genome sequencing of a sampling of positive COVID-19 cases to determine the presence of variants in the community.

Last week, the Southern Nevada Health District received 120 treatment courses of the COVID-19 medication, Paxlovid and began offering the treatment to patients who test positive, are symptomatic, over the age of 65, and meet the criteria for taking the medication. Today, accessibility to treatment is being expanded to include people 12 to 64 years of age with a positive COVID-19 test who are at higher risk for severe illness. People in this group must also have symptoms of COVID-19, and those symptoms must have started within the last five days. The Southern Nevada Health District has received 120 treatment courses of the COVID-19 medication, PAXLOVID. This will enable the Health District to provide treatment to 120 individuals. The Health District will order additional courses of treatment when supplies become available. Due to limited supplies, initially this treatment will be offered to preferable patients who arrive at the Health District’s testing site who are symptomatic, have a COVID-19 positive test, and are over the age of 65. This treatment is an option that can be offered to people early in their infection to prevent complications and deaths.

Due to increased testing demands, the Southern Nevada Health District and Clark County will open a second drive thru testing location at Fiesta Henderson, 777 W. Lake Mead Parkway. The site opens at 3 p.m., Saturday, January 15 and will operate in the property’s parking garage. The Fiesta Henderson testing site will operate Saturday through Wednesday between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. by appointment. This location will be open on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 17. Drive ups will not be accepted.

In response to a local surge in testing demand, the Southern Nevada Health District and Clark County will open two drive-thru COVID-19 testing sites in the parking garages at Texas Station and Fiesta Henderson hotel and casinos with support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). These sites are operated by eTrueNorth, a DHHS contractor. The sites will be available for 21 days. The sites are available by appointment and people can register on the eTrueNorth website: www.INeedaCOVID19Test.com. Additional testing information can be found on the Southern Nevada Health District COVID-19 testing site page at  www.snhd.info/covid-testing. People can register for their appointment three days prior to their preferred date.

Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is announcing the highest number of COVID-19 cases reported in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic. As of January 7,  there have been 392,971 cases of COVID-19 reported in Clark County, an increase of 6,110 cases over the previous day. In addition, the Health District is reporting 15 deaths. Due to increased testing demand, the Southern Nevada Health District and its partners have added additional locations and expanded testing operating hours at its three College of Southern Nevada sites. Beginning next week, six additional mobile testing units will be operational. The Southern Nevada Health District reminds everyone that COVID-19 testing is available at locations throughout the community. People seeking testing should visit one of the many community sites rather than visiting a hospital emergency department for testing. The Health District recently expanded its testing site hours at three College of Southern Nevada locations and mobile testing units and kiosks are scheduled for local libraries and community centers. The Southern Nevada Health District is expanding COVID-19 testing hours at its College of Southern Nevada sites to meet the demand for testing in Clark County. Beginning tomorrow, January 5, the Health District’s College of Southern Nevada COVID-19 locations will offer testing Monday through Thursday (previously Tuesday through Friday), from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (previously 12 p.m.-4 p.m.). The sites are located at the Henderson Campus, 700 College Dr., Henderson, NV 89002; North Las Vegas, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave, North Las Vegas, NV 89030; and West Charleston Campus, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89146. Testing is available by appointment at these sites, and appointments can be made at www.snhd.info/covid-testing.

Today, the Southern Nevada Health District is announcing the highest number of COVID-19 cases reported in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic. As of December 30, there have been 369,414 cases of COVID-19 reported in Clark County, an increase of 3,363 cases over the previous day. The Health District is also reporting the seven-day moving average of 1,306 new positive cases as of December 27. No new deaths were reported. Today, the Health District is reporting a significant increase in COVID-19 cases in the community. As of December 28, there have been 363,685 cases of COVID-19 reported in Clark County, an increase of 2,201 cases over the previous day. The Health District is also reporting the seven-day moving average of 825 new positive cases as of December 25. A total of 6,451 Clark County residents have died from COVID-19.

The Southern Nevada Health District is wishing everyone a Healthy and Happy Holiday! It is the season when people gather together, and the Health District wants everyone to enjoy their time with family and friends as safely as possible. The most effective way people can keep their family and loved ones safe is to get a COVID-19 vaccine. People with signs and symptoms consistent with COVID should get tested and stay home. People who are not fully vaccinated should delay travel, and everyone eligible should get a booster dose. When possible, avoid crowded, poorly ventilated spaces, and wear a mask in public indoor spaces.

The Southern Nevada Health District confirmed the state’s first reported case of COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant on December 14. The individual who tested positive is a fully vaccinated female in her mid-20s who did not receive a booster dose of the vaccine. The individual traveled out of the country during the incubation period. Upon return, she had symptoms consistent with COVID-19.  She is not hospitalized and is isolating. Part of the Health District’s investigation includes identifying contacts of the case and making the appropriate recommendations for testing and quarantine.

The drive-thru COVID-19 testing and vaccination site in the parking lot of UNLV’s Paradise Campus at 851 E. Tropicana Ave. will be closed next week, Sunday, Dec. 19 through Thursday, Dec. 23. It will to re-open Sunday, Dec. 26, for its normal operations of five nights a week, Sunday through Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The site is located just east of Paradise Road across from UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has strengthened its booster dose recommendations to include people age 16 and 17 if they completed their initial Pfizer BioNTech vaccine series at least six months ago. The CDC now recommends booster doses for everyone age 16 and older. Adolescent booster doses are available at Southern Nevada Health District clinics.

The Southern Nevada Health District conducts ongoing surveillance for variants. To date, no cases of the Omicron variant have been reported in Clark County. The most effective way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and its variants is to get vaccinated, get a booster when eligible, wear a mask in public indoor settings, practice good hand hygiene, and for people to stay home and get tested if they are sick or have symptoms of COVID-19 or have had contact with a confirmed or suspected case.

The Southern Nevada Health District is providing a weekly summary of COVID-19 data and new or updated information about COVID-19 clinics and resources. The COVID-19 Dashboard has been updated. Its Vaccination Summary now includes the percentage of people age 5 and older who have initiated and completed their vaccinations. In addition, the Dashboard now includes cumulative probable COVID-19 cases.

Just in time for the holidays, booster doses are now available to all adults 18 years of age and older. People age 18 and older who have completed their initial series with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines six months ago or more after the initial series is complete or adults 18 and older who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine two months after their first vaccine can get a booster at Health District clinic locations. The booster dose can be the same vaccine originally received or a different vaccine. COVID-19 boosters are safe, effective and free.

Thursday, November 18 marks the 44th Great American Smokeout, an opportunity for smokers to take the first step to quit smoking. It is estimated that seven out of 10 smokers would like to quit smoking. The Southern Nevada Health District has cessation resources and tools as well as information about alternative tobacco products and smoke-free living on its  Get Healthy Clark County website.

The holidays are a time for celebrating with families and friends, and the Southern Nevada Health District wants to make sure everyone is safe and healthy this season. The Testing Before Turkey! Vaccination Before Vacation! COVID-19 Clinic will be held on Monday, November 22, at Futuro Academy, 920 N. Lamb Blvd., Las Vegas, 89110 from 3-6 p.m. to offer people the opportunity to get the COVID-19 and flu vaccines or a COVID-19 test before the holidays.

The Southern Nevada Health District and its partners in the COVID-19 Outreach and Education Project received a $5,518,801 grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to address COVID-19 health disparities in the community. The grant program began in June 2021 and continues through May 2023.  

For clarification, the number of cases COVID-19 among children age four and younger is 7,566 as of November 12. The number of cases in children between the ages of 5 and 11 is 16,687 as of November 12. The COVID-19 Dashboard will include this breakdown going forward.

The Southern Nevada Health District began to administer Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine today to children between the ages of 5 and 11 at its main clinic at 280 S. Beginning Wednesday, November 10, Pfizer BioNTech pediatric doses will be available for children between the ages of 5 and 11 at the Health District’s main public health center at 280 S. Decatur Blvd. and its community clinic sites. Vaccines will be available on a walk-in basis until the appointment system is updated.

Following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendations, the Southern Nevada Health District will begin administering Pfizer’s pediatric COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5 to 11 beginning Wednesday, November 10 at its main public health center at 280 S. Decatur, Las Vegas, NV, 89107.

As of October 28, there have been 331,107 cases of COVID-19 reported in Clark County. The Health District is also reporting the seven-day average of new positive cases as of October 24 is 293 cases, while the 7-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 6.9 percent. A total of 5,963 Clark County residents have died from COVID-19.

In keeping with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations, the Southern Nevada Health District is urging all eligible people to get a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Booster doses are now available at Health District clinic locations.

As of October 22, there have been 329,006 cases of COVID-19 reported in Clark County. The Health District is also reporting the seven-day average of new positive cases as of October 18 is 266.0. A total of 5,900 Clark County residents have died from COVID-19.

Booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine are available at Southern Nevada Health District and community vaccination clinics for people who are eligible. Booster doses of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine have not been authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and are not currently being administered at vaccination clinics. The FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are both expected to meet later this week. The FDA is meeting to decide authorization of boosters and the CDC will make final recommendations for administering the vaccines. The Health District will begin administering the vaccine in accordance with CDC recommendations once all steps at the federal, state and local levels have been completed.

As of October 15, there have been 326,538 cases of COVID-19 reported in Clark County. The Health District is also reporting the seven-day average of new positive cases as of October 11 is 312.9. A total of 5,835 Clark County residents have died from COVID-19.

The Southern Nevada Health District’s COVID-19 testing and vaccine clinic site located at the College of Southern Nevada Henderson campus located at 700 College Dr., Henderson, NV 89002 will be temporarily relocated to the Student Union on Thursday, October 7, and Friday, October 8. Services will resume at its current location in expanded modular units off Heather Dr. near Building C and the Student Union on Tuesday, October 12.

The Southern Nevada Health District continues to provide Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine booster doses to eligible individuals.
