The child care program staff routinely inspects all licensed child care facilities in Clark County to assure compliance with elements of health, sanitation, and safety in the child care setting.

In 2014 there were 387 child care and nursery facilities permitted by the health district.

In addition to conducting routine, unannounced inspections of these child care facilities, environmental health staff conducts:

  • Construction plan reviews of new child care centers
  • Respond to citizen complaints
  • Respond to requests by the child care licensing entities
  • Investigate communicable disease cases

An emphasis is placed on educating child care providers about infection control measures and injury prevention.

Effective Nov. 1, 2012 the health district no longer offers tuberculosis (TB) testing for employment purposes. To be tested, go to your doctor or contact a clinic found in this document: Tuberculosis Testing Locations / Localidades para Pruebas de la TB.

On October 6, 2005 a policy change regarding for Syrup of Ipecac in First Aid Kits Used in Clark County Child Care Centers and Family Care Homes was implemented. To learn more about this change, visit the Syrup of Ipecac Policy Change webpage.
