The child care program staff routinely inspects all licensed child care facilities in Clark County to assure compliance with elements of health, sanitation, and safety in the child care setting.
As of January 2005, there are 281 licensed child care centers and 293 licensed home-based child care facilities permitted by the health district.
In addition to conducting routine, unannounced inspections of these child care facilities, environmental health staff conducts:
- Construction plan reviews of new child care centers
- Respond to citizen complaints
- Respond to requests by the child care licensing entities
- Investigate communicable disease cases
An emphasis is placed on educating child care providers about infection control measures and injury prevention.
