Food Handler Safety Training Card Program
Food Handler Safety Training Cards are required by any person employed in or operating a food establishment as defined in Nevada Revised Statute 446.030, and we are committed to ensuring the training offered by our program meets the basic food safety education needs of our clients and is accessible to them. The test and free training materials are offered in multiple languages, and we continue to evaluate the program to ensure it is evolving with the needs of the industry and our food service clients.
Use our FREE training book and videos to prepare for the food safety test.

Obtaining a Food Handler Card
FIRST-TIME AND RENEWAL TESTING
The test for first-time Food Handler Safety Training Card clients consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. The renewal test has 10 multiple-choice questions. A passing score is 70% or better. After passing the test, applicable fees will be collected, and the three-year Food Handler Safety Training Card will be issued immediately. Valid identification that adheres to our ID policy must be presented for in-person testing.
- In-Person Testing
First-time applicants will need to schedule an appointment to take the food safety test in person at one of our locations. Online testing is not available for first-time clients. Cardholders who renewed online last time must also renew in person by appointment.
- Online Renewal
Cardholders may be eligible to renew online at every other renewal. Click here to check eligibility using your previous card number and expiration date.
Important: Due to space limitations, only the test applicant is permitted to enter. No children, family members or friends will be admitted.
* If you took the iPad-based food safety test at an SNHD office after July 2018 (expiration date after July 2021), you can renew online rather than in person at every other renewal. Standard card fees apply. No appointment is needed to renew online.
DUPLICATE CARDS
Duplicates and replacement cards are available without an appointment during specific hours at each of our offices. Please visit our Duplicates page for details. The fee is $20.
RETESTS
If you do not pass your test, you may try again as early as the next day in the same manner as your last attempt (in-person or online). The fee is $5. See our locations page for retest hours.
NAME CHANGES
If your name has legally changed, we can update your card if provided with proof. Please visit our Duplicates page for details. The fee is $20 to update an unexpired card.
Test and Card Fees
Debit, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay, Google Pay, money order, cashier’s checks, business checks and approved vouchers are accepted at all locations. Cash is also accepted at all locations except Laughlin. See our Valid Identification Policy for identification that is accepted for payment.
