Food Establishment Inspection Process

The Environmental Health staff of the Southern Nevada Health District, in cooperation with the Nevada Resort Association, the Nevada Restaurant Association and local food establishments, developed food inspection regulations.

Staff works to promote healthy people and healthy communities through education and regulation of food establishments.

Permitted food establishments are inspected periodically by health district staff to assure ongoing compliance with pertinent sections of these regulations.

While the good management practices are important to the sanitary maintenance of an establishment, more emphasis is placed on risk factors that have the potential to contribute to foodborne illness.

Inspection findings may result in an “A” grade, a downgrade to a “B” or “C” status, or for an extremely excessive number of violations or an uncontrolled imminent health hazard, a closure of the facility may result. More information on the grading system is available on the Grade Cards FAQ webpage

Restaurant inspections are now available online from 2005 to the present. Inspections for bars, taverns, snack bars, food processors, food warehouses, health food stores, markets and permanent outdoor barbeques are also available.
