FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
April 2, 2012

LAS VEGAS – The most recent edition of “The Perspective,” the Southern Nevada Health District’s quarterly e-newsletter, is now available on the health district’s website, www.SNHD.info. Each issue provides a public health perspective on a particular topic. The most recent edition marks the health district’s 50th anniversary. Anyone can subscribe by visiting the following link: http://www.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/newsletter/enews/1104-perspective.html

A story titled “A New Perspective on Public Health” looks at how the agency continues to address public health issues like tuberculosis, food handler training and outbreak investigations in the 21st century with tools unavailable in 1962.

Throughout the year, “The Perspective” will include a public health flashback with memories from long-term health district staff members. In this issue, the first flashback features an environmental health training officer who joined the health district as a ‘pool kid’ in 1982.

Finally, “The Perspective” remembers the first chief health officer, Dr. Otto Ravenholt, who passed away in March. Dr. Ravenholt shared his perspective on the health district’s founding and growth during the past 50 years in an interview that will be air in upcoming segments of the health district’s quarterly show, HD-tv, which airs on Channels 2 and 4. HD-tv episodes are also posted to the health district website, www.SNHD.info.
