Home/New Year! New Home! A message from Dr. Joe Iser, Chief Health Officer

February 2016

I am pleased to announce the Southern Nevada Health District has a new home at 280 S. Decatur Blvd.  Our new public health center offers clients and staff easy access to public transportation, the 95 freeway, and it allows for the consolidation of several service sites into one convenient location. Services at our new public health center include immunizations for adults, children, and travelers, Food Handler Safety Training Cards, many environmental health services, and now, the Sexual Health, TB Treatment and Control, and Refugee Health clinics.

As we have worked to make services more accessible, our clinics in East Las Vegas and Henderson were not affected by the move to our Decatur building. Clients can still access Food Handler Safety Training Card services and immunizations in Henderson and family planning, immunizations, the Men’s Health Center, and the Kids Clinic, all at our East Las Vegas public health center. In addition, for many business clients  we have an environmental health team co-located at the City of Las Vegas Development Services Center at 333 N. Rancho to provide access to services such as food and pool plan review at that location.

We are continuing to add finishing touches to our new facility, but stay tuned.… In March, we are hosting an open house to show off our new home. We will be posting information on our website to update you about our plans.

Our new public health center has a few added features. Last year, the Health District applied for and received community redevelopment funding from the City of Las Vegas. The funding was used to install solar tubes that provide natural light into the building, upgrades to the parking lot, and additional security measures – all features that benefit the health and safety of our staff, clients, and neighbors.

In addition, we are decorating several of the publicly viewed interior walls with photos taken by our own staff. Recently, we held a photo contest requesting images of some of the wonders of our state. We received 216 entries from staff members and have initially selected the top 25 vote getters from 3,516 votes cast. We hope the public and our clients will enjoy the photographs by our talented employees.

Finally, we are very excited to partner with Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation (DETR) to open The Aroma Café in the coming months. The café will offer snacks, breakfast, and lunch and will be available to the public.

The move to our new public health center was an exciting way to begin the New Year. We look forward to serving you in our new facility.
