Home/When does the health district close an establishment?

A closure takes place when an establishment has 41 or more demerits, an imminent health hazard requiring closure, or failed a “C” grade re-inspection.

An establishment must remain closed until approved to operate by the health district. The operator must correct all major and critical violations, pay the closure fee and schedule a re-inspection when ready. All health district closures require a full inspection prior to re-opening. The re-inspection must result in 10 demerits or fewer, with no identical repeat critical or major violations.

Business hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. If an after-hours inspection is requested, an after-hours fee PDF 128KB must be paid in addition to all other applicable fees.

Contact your health district Environmental Health Food Operations office for more information.
