Southern Nevada Health District increases access to care through expansion of services
Family Health Care Center offers primary care services

LAS VEGAS — On Monday, Sept. 17, the Southern Nevada Health District will begin offering expanded primary care services at its Family Health Care Center inside its main location at 280 S. Decatur Blvd. The Family Health Care Center will provide medical care for adults and children when they are sick, as well as preventive care services, including annual adult physicals and well-child check-ups for children up to 18 years of age. Clients will be able to access services to manage chronic conditions such as asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. For appointments call (702) 759-1800. “This expansion of Health District services is a continuation of our mission to promote the health of the community by providing low-cost, accessible care to underserved Clark County communities,” said Dr. Joe Iser, Chief Health Officer of the Southern Nevada Health District.
In keeping with its mission to increase access to care, the Health District opened a Dental Health Clinic earlier this year. Dental health services are provided on Mondays and Tuesdays by appointment only and include dental screenings, fluoride varnishes, and sealants. The Health District is also providing additional access to immunization services with its Mobile Clinic at four locations in Southern Nevada. From April through June of this year, a collaboration with the Nevada State Oral Health Program, Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public and Behavioral Health, and community leaders in rural counties allowed the Health District to work with its partners to provide mobile services in Nye, Esmeralda, and White Pine to further its goal of expanding access to care beyond the borders of Clark County. This successful initiative provided dental services to 129 clients and vaccines to 57 clients. Services were provided to insured and uninsured clients. When surveyed, clients identified a lack of insurance and lack of ability to pay their copay or deductible as a barrier to accessing services. Residents in these areas with insurance also identified having a lack of access to a health care provider as a barrier to receiving vaccines. This outreach initiative was funded through a Title XX grant.
