H1N1 vaccine available to general public, Dec. 18

LAS VEGAS — The Southern Nevada Health District will offer 2009 H1N1 vaccine to the general public beginning Friday, Dec. 18. The 2009 H1N1 vaccine is available for free at the Southern Nevada Health District. For additional information, visit www.SNHD.info or call the Nevada Helpline (702) 759-INFO (4636).

The health district continues to encourage people in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s priority groups to receive their immunization because they are at higher risk for serious illness:

  • Pregnant women
  • People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
  • Health care and emergency medical services personnel
  • Persons between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old
  • People 25 and older with chronic medical condition or is immune- compromised

The health district’s clinic schedule is as follows:

9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

With availability of vaccine statewide, the health district recommends people who can receive the immunization to do so. It is anticipated that H1N1 will be the dominant influenza strain for the next several flu seasons. By receiving the immunization this winter or spring, people will have protection against the strain during next year’s flu season.
