FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
August 4, 2009

As of Friday, July 31, 2009, the Southern Nevada Health District reports the following information regarding novel H1N1 case counts in Clark County:

Week Ending Confirmed Deaths*
July 31 20 1
Total 230 7**

As the summer progresses, the health district’s influenza surveillance program is receiving fewer reports of seasonal influenza infection, therefore a majority of positive influenza results continue to be novel H1N1. One patient remains hospitalized.

The health district reports two additional deaths. One patient is a 37-year-old man with underlying medical conditions who died July 29 and a 52-year-old man with underlying medical conditions who died August 1.

*This number represents Clark County residents only. In early June, the health district reported the death of a hospitalized patient who was a resident of another state.

** The health district received a report of an additional death on August 4. This information would normally appear in the following week’s update.
