West Nile Virus

The Southern Nevada Health District’s West Nile virus surveillance program reports six human cases of West Nile virus in Clark County.  The health district reported the first human case associated with the illness in August.

The Nevada State Health Division reports a total of 10 human cases associated with West Nile virus statewide. In 2007, Nevada had a total of 12 human cases, three of whom were residents of Clark County. West Nile positive mosquito clusters have been identified in Clark, Lyon, Pershing and Washoe counties.

The health district continues to advise Southern Nevadans to protect themselves against mosquito bites by wearing repellent, avoiding outdoor activities at dawn and dusk, wearing appropriate clothing, removing standing water, and maintaining swimming pools.
