Holiday Travel Tips

Holiday 2023

Are you traveling this holiday season? Take the following steps to ensure a safer, healthier and more enjoyable trip.

  • Make sure you are up to date on all of your routine vaccines, including the seasonal flu and updated COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Assemble a travel health kit with things you may need, especially items that may be difficult to find at your destination. The kit should include your prescriptions, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and health insurance card.
  • Bring a basic first-aid kit, including bandages, and ointments for minor cuts and scrapes.
  • Bring healthy snacks for the flight, such as fruit or vegetables.
  • To stay hydrated, bring an empty, reusable water bottle. You can take it through airport security and fill it up at your gate.
  • Always wear a seat belt, and small children should ride in car seats.
  • Arrive early at the airport and be prepared for delays and cancellations.
  • Take an extra debit/credit card, plus emergency cash.
  • Take pictures of your luggage in case your bag(s) gets lost.
  • Move when you have a chance. If possible, bypass moving walkways, escalators or elevators in favor of walking.
  • If traveling overseas, check the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “Destinations” web page at Destinations | Travelers’ Health | CDC to see what vaccines or medicines you may need and what diseases or health risks are a concern at your destination.
