The retail sale or wholesale of any used mattresses or bedding without first subjecting the used mattresses or bedding to an approved disinfection/sterilization process, and properly labeling them as used and sterilized, is a violation of both Southern Nevada Health District regulation and Nevada state law (NRS 444.010-444.040).

Regulations require Individuals and entities involved in the disinfection/sterilization and sale of used mattresses to register with the Health District and have their process and facility approved prior to engaging such business. This applies to both for-profit and non-profit entities.

Registration candidates must complete and submit the application and pay the plan review and registration fee invoice either in person or on-line. A complete statement must be made of the method to be employed for disinfection or alternate method and this statement must be accompanied by a plan, drawn to scale showing details of the installation. This plan must bear a title indicating clearly where the installation is to be made. Registration applicants will be contacted by staff for any additional information needed. Once an application is approved, field staff will contact the Registration candidate for a one-time site visit to verify the content of the application. Provided no corrections are found to be necessary, approval will be immediate. Registrants will be assigned a registration number to be placed on their bedding labels.
