How to Report Illness

If you suspect you have food poisoning from a local restaurant, deli, or caterer, the Health District wants to hear from you, even if you are unaware of the cause. Reports from community members are essential in helping us detect and investigate potential outbreaks. Our staff reviews all reports for patterns and trends that may require further investigation. It is important that you provide a brief food history and your contact information. Your personal information is kept confidential by law, and we take that responsibility very seriously.

Here is a how to report your foodborne illness:

  • If you think that you got sick from a pre-packaged item you bought at a grocery store, please call the FDA at 1 (510) 337-6741.
  • If you think you got sick from meat that you bought at a grocery store and prepared at home, please call the USDA at 1 (800) 535-4555.
  • If you think that you got sick from a local restaurant, deli, or caterer, you can notify the Health District one of two ways:

In the event of an outbreak, the Southern Nevada Health District will work with your business to identify appropriate corrective actions and precautions to end the outbreak quickly.

If you suspect that you might be experiencing an outbreak at your property, please reach out to the Health District immediately. The sooner we know about it, the sooner we can work together to help end it.
