Syphilis cases are on the rise in Clark County. In 2010, 128 primary and secondary syphilis cases, 180 early latent syphilis cases and 5 congenital syphilis cases were reported in Clark County.
This is a significant increase from the 61 total confirmed cases in Clark County between 2001 and 2004.
In the 1930s and 1940s syphilis struck one out of 10 adults and 100,000 children were infected with the disease in the United States.
Syphilis is easily treated, but without treatment it can cause serious health complications. Knowing your risk for developing syphilis and what you can do to protect yourself is the best way to prevent syphilis.
