New Clients

You are considered a new client if you:

  • have recently been diagnosed with active TB
  • have close contact to someone with active TB
  • were referred for treatment by a hospital, doctor or other medical facility
  • have TB latent infection (LTBI) and wish to start preventive therapy
  • have active TB or LTBI and are transferring from another state
  • are a Class B immigrant and have been referred by Homeland Security

Upon arriving to the clinic, give the clerk your name and any records and chest x-ray films you have.

Depending on the reason for your visit, you will be asked to complete some forms and answer some questions. You will then wait until a nurse calls your name.

When your name is called, you will be taken to an exam room where a nurse will ask you questions about your symptoms and other useful information. Sputum testing may be performed and medication started as needed for active disease or latent infection.

Your first interview will take about 45 – 60 minutes. If you have active TB, or are suspected of having active TB, you will be scheduled to see the clinic doctor at a later date. The doctor will review your chest x-rays and discuss your diagnosis and progress with you.

Clients on Directly Observed Therapy (DOT)

If you’re on DOT, you will take your medication while a TB nurse watches.

Doctor Appointments

If you are a client with active TB, you will have regular visits every 4 – 8 weeks with a pulmonologist (a doctor who specializes in lung diseases). If you have TB in the lungs, we will arrange for you to get a chest x-ray a few days before your doctor’s appointment.

The TB Clinic also has a pediatric pulmonologist (a doctor who specializes in lung diseases in children), who sees clients under the age of 18.

During your clinic appointment, before seeing the doctor, a nurse will test your vision, take your weight and temperature, and take any sputum you bring. The doctor will then assess your general health, review your chest x-rays and answer your questions.

For more information, call the TB Clinic at (702) 759-1370.
