Salud en Acción is a community based health promotion program that provides Medicare advocacy to the Hispanic community.
This includes:
- Medicare drug discount card
- One-on-one counseling
- Eligibility
- Referrals
- Assistance with the appeal process
The Salud en Acción program recruits Hispanic volunteers to promote the program among their friends, neighbors and co-workers. Program facts and information are communicated to the community via local television, radio, newspaper and a monthly newsletter. All stories feature real Hispanic men and women from the community who are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle.
The program began in September 1999, with a grant from Baylor College of Medicine and Women's Health Connection. Their initial goal was to provide the Hispanic community with accurate information to help them make informed choices about their own health care.
