Tuberculosis Treatment and Control Clinic

Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of death for infectious diseases. At the end of 2005, 85 new active cases of tuberculosis had been identified in Clark County, compared to 67 in 2004. At any time there are approximately 800 Clark County residents on medication for latent TB. Because of the necessity for long-term treatment and its tendency to become drug resistant, TB remains an important focus for public health intervention.

The TB Treatment and Control Clinic has developed a comprehensive program to address the needs of Clark County residents infected with tuberculosis. Services include:

  • Case management for all clients with TB. This includes patient education, treatment for active and latent TB, and provision of directly observed therapy.
  • Evaluation of new Class B immigrants in need of TB care and follow-up.
  • Contact investigations, including identification, testing and treatment of people with close relationships to people with active TB.
  • Education of health providers, business and the public about key TB treatment and control guidelines.
