When to use a condom:

1. Before each sex act
2. Before any sexual contact with your partner
3. To prevent pregnancy
4. To prevent transmission of:
   • HIV
   • Gonorrhea
   • Chlamydia
   • Trichomoniasis
   • Herpes
   • Syphilis
   • Chancroid
   • HPV (genital warts)

How to use a male condom:

1. Store condoms in a cool, dark place. Check the expiration date before opening. If the condom is sticky, brittle or looks damaged, do not use it.
   
   
2. Open the package, being careful not to nick or tear the condom with your fingernails or teeth.
   
   
3. Hold the tip between your thumb and forefinger. Leaving a space at the head of the penis for semen, with your other hand, unroll the condom over the penis shaft.
   
   
4. After ejaculation, hold the condom at the base of the penis and pull out of your partner's vagina or anus while the penis is still erect.
   
   
5. Roll the condom gently towards the penis head and remove. Throw it in the trash.

How to use a female condom:

1. Before you use a female condom, be sure to read the directions and learn how to use it properly.
   
   
2. Open the package, being careful not to tear the condom with your fingernails or teeth. Rub the condom together to ensure the lubrication is evenly spread from top to bottom.
   
   
3. To insert condom, squeeze the ring on the closed end of the condom together and insert into the vagina.
   
   
4. Now push the ring up to just past the pubic bone with your index finger. You will feel the pubic bone by curving your index finger when it is a couple of inches inside the vagina. The outside ring should lie against the outer lips.
   
   
5. After intercourse, squeeze and twist the outer ring to keep sperm inside the condom and pull out gently. Throw it in the trash.
