For Immediate Release District debuts new public health television show: LAS VEGAS – Jan. 4, 2006 – The Southern Nevada Health District today debuts a new public health television show, titled “HDTV” (Health District Television), on the City of Las Vegas’ KCLV, Channel 2 and Clark County Television (CCTV), Channel 4. The inaugural half-hour show focuses on the topics of seasonal flu, avian flu and flu pandemics. Local public health officials separate fact from fiction with a thoughtful discussion of the issues and potential risks. Additionally, officials discuss the flu shot, flu surveillance and local preparedness planning, including steps the public can take to help the community prepare for emergencies. Future episodes of HDTV will explore a range of public health topics and highlight services offered by the health district. “HDTV provides a forum for the heath district to relay timely and useful information to the public, so they can better understand issues affecting their health and the health of their family,” said Dr. Donald Kwalick, chief health officer. The City of Las Vegas’ KCLV, Channel 2 will air HDTV Tuesdays at 8 p.m., Thursdays at 6 a.m. and Fridays at 5 p.m. Clark County Television (CCTV) channel 4 will air HDTV on the following dates this week: Wednesday, January 4, at 6:00 p.m.; Thursday, January 5, at midnight; Friday, January 6, at midnight; Saturday, January 7 at 5:30 a.m.; and Sunday, January 8 at 2:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Future air schedules are available at http://www.accessclarkcounty.com. The incidence of seasonal flu continues to increase in the county, and the health district reminds the public that it is not too late to get a flu shot.
