A chemical attack is the deliberate release of a toxic gas, liquid or solid that can poison people or the environment.
Signs of a chemical release may include:
- Many people suffering from watery eyes, twitching, choking, breathing problems, or losing coordination.
- Multiple cases of sick, dying or dead birds, fish or small animals.
If you see signs of a chemical attack:
- Try to determine the source of the chemical and the area affected.
- Leave the area immediately. Learn more about Evacuation facts and procedures.
- Get out of the building if you suspect a chemical has been released inside and avoid the contaminated area, if possible.
- Move as far away from where you suspect the chemical was released and "shelter-in-place." Learn more about Sheltering-In-Place during an emergency.
