OCTOBER 2016

New and Noteworthy

Great American Smokeout

Are you ready to lose the habit? Mark your calendar for Thursday, November 17, 2016 and join millions of smokers taking part in the Great American Smokeout challenge. Research shows that smokers are most successful at quitting smoking when they have support. Visit the Southern Nevada Health District’s GetHealthyClarkCounty.org website for tobacco cessation resources.

American Diabetes Month

November is National Diabetes Month, an annual recognition of a disease that impacts more than 29 million Americans, and 86 million more who are living with prediabetes, a serious health condition that increases a person’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases. The Health District’s Office of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion offers tips on how to eat better and get moving in order to decrease your risk for diabetes, as well as a prevention program, The Road to Diabetes Prevention, on its website: GetHealthyClarkCounty.org. Look for this program to be available in Spanish next year!

Fall Cleaning

Fall Cleaning – It’s a thing! And if it isn’t it should be. The cooler temperatures are a perfect time for Southern Nevadans to clean out the clutter in their garages, backyards, and homes. With winter around the corner rodents (which are abundant in our area) will be looking for warm places to nest. For more information about how you can inspect your property for rodents, visit the Health District’s website.
