WINTER 2014/2015

New & Noteworthy

Check out the new Neon to Nature app

There's an app for that! We launched a new app for smart phones that can help Southern Nevadans connect to the Valley's 600+miles of walking paths and trails. The app can be downloaded through the Apple Store for iOS devices: https://appsto.re/us/sTYf3.i or from Google Play for Android:  http://bit.ly/1zirwNo. For additional information, visit the Get Healthy Clark County website, www.GetHealthyClarkCounty.org.

New Year's Resolution Solution

10 pounds in 10 weeks? Just as those New Year's resolutions are starting to wane, we're launching the annual 10-in-10 Challenge, the online program that helps participants both cut and burn more calories. The free program kicks off Monday, Feb. 9 and signups begin Monday, Feb. 2 on the Get Healthy Clark County website, www.GetHealthyClarkCounty.org or call the Office of Chronic Disease & Health Promotion, (702) 759-1270.

Flu shots remain the best defense

We expect flu activity to peak in the first few months of the year. You can still get your flu shot at the health district or at a number of places in Southern Nevada.  The news that the strains of the virus currently circulating are about 50 percent different from what is in the vaccine does not change the recommendation to get vaccinated. The flu vaccine is still the best protection against the flu this season. In addition to being a good match for half the strains currently circulating, the vaccine may also provide some protection against the drifted virus. Flu seasons are unpredictable and there is no way to tell with certainty which of the four strains circulating will be the dominant strain this season. Need to up your flu IQ? Visit http://www.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/influenza. Call the immunization clinic if you have questions: (702) 759-0850.
