H1N1 vaccine available through July 23
at health district’s main public health center

LAS VEGAS – The 2009 H1N1 Influenza vaccine will be available for free at the Southern Nevada Health District’s 625 Shadow Lane public health center through Friday, July 23. The vaccine is available between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Since October, the health district has administered more than 149,000 doses. The health district reminds parents and guardians that children under the age of 10 should receive two doses of the vaccine approximately one month apart to develop adequate protection.

The 2009 H1N1 influenza strain is predicted be one of the dominant flu viruses that will circulate during the upcoming flu season. The vaccine currently being offered will provide protection from this particular strain. The flu vaccine being developed for the new season will include the 2009 H1N1 influenza strain as well as protection against two additional strains predicted to circulate. Seasonal flu vaccines are provided for a fee by the health district.
