Services Available
The Southern Nevada Health District offers mosquito control free of charge to members of the community.
Mosquito Trapping
Throughout the mosquito season, the health district places mosquito traps in known natural and man-made breeding locations.
The mosquitoes collected in the traps are identified and tested for West Nile virus, Western equine encephalitis, and St. Louis encephalitis.
For more information on mosquito trapping visit our Surveillance webpage.
Green Swimming Pools
Un-maintained swimming pools are a tremendous breeding source for mosquitoes and the health district works with pool owners to check the water for mosquito larvae and treat the pool if necessary.
If larvae are present in a green pool, chlorine will not kill them. Professional assistance is needed to prevent larvae from becoming adult mosquitoes.
If you have or know someone who has a green pool, please call the hotline at (702) 759-1220 or complete the online complaint form.
Standing / Stagnant Water
The health district will respond to reports of standing water. If necessary, checking the water for mosquito larvae is done and appropriate treatment is taken to control larvae and prevent future breeding.
A small puddle that holds water for seven days is a potential breeding source for mosquitoes.
If you see standing water in your neighborhood or community, please call the hotline at (702) 759-1220 or complete the online complaint form.
