The health district offers vaccines for people traveling outside the United States. As with most immunizations, travel vaccines often require several weeks to provide complete protection. It is recommended that travel vaccines are administered as soon as possible.

Travel Advisor

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Travelers' Health website provides information about recommended and required vaccines, unique recommendations, precautions, or other general public health or safety concerns during your travels.

Services Available

The following services are available for travelers to foreign or territorial destinations outside the United States:

• All recommended adult vaccines:
  • Tdap (Tetanus diphtheria with whooping cough component for adults 19-64 years)
  • Tetanus diptheria
  • Polio
  • MMR (Measles-Mumps-Rubella)
  • Varicella (Chickenpox)
  • Influenza
  • Pneumonia
  • Zostavax (Shingles)
  • Human Papilloma Virus vaccine (ages 19-26 only)
• Vaccines requested for traveling:
  • Yellow fever
  • Typhoid (injection only)
  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Meningococcal
  • Rabies
• Referral to travel medicine specialists so you can discuss any medical concerns due to your personal medical history.

Services Not Available

We do not offer the following services for travelers:

• Consultation with a licensed physician.
• Yellow fever exemption letters for travelers cannot receive the yellow fever vaccine.
• Prescriptions for medication you may need while traveling.
• Blood work to determine immunity towards diseases.
• Japanese Enchephalitis vaccine.
• Oral Typhoid vaccine.

Costs

Vaccine costs vary based on the type of immunization required. In addition to the vaccine costs, the health district charges an administrative fee of $16 per person for one vaccine and $25 per person for two or more vaccines.

Payment by Visa, MasterCard, cash, Nevada Check-up, Medicaid, and Medicare Part B & D, and Medicare Railroad is accepted. Not all vaccines are covered by insurance.

Note: Credit cards must have the exact name as the identification presented. For example, a credit card with the name Jim Smith will not be accepted if the driver’s license reads James Smith.

Clients have the choice of receiving all travel related care and services from their personal health care provider for a fee, or receive indicated travel vaccines offered by the health district for a fee in conjunction with travel-related services provided by their personal health care provider or a travel medicine clinic.
