Food Handler and Child Care
Health Card Requirements
NRS 446.030 “Food Handler” Defined
- “Food handler” means any person employed in or operating a food establishment, whether that person is an employer, employee or other natural person, who handles, stores, transports, prepares, manufactures, serves or sells food, or who comes in contact with eating or cooking utensils or other equipment used in the handling, preparation, manufacture, service or sale of food.
- The term does not include a person who:
- Only handles, stores, transports, sells or otherwise comes in contact with food that is sealed and packaged for sale directly to the consumer;
- If the food is potentially hazardous food, handles the food only occasionally and incidentally to his responsibilities or employment, and such handling is not part of his regularly scheduled responsibilities or employment; or
- Is providing services as a cashier, salesperson, stock clerk, warehouse or dockworker, delivery person or maintenance staff or providing services in a similar position with limited food-handling responsibility. 4.1 Child Care Provider Health
4.1.1 Every Child Care Provider shall have on file at the Child Care Facility, available for review, written evidence that the Child Care Provider is free from active Tuberculosis. The written evidence, when testing is done through the Health Authority, is a “Certificate of Tuberculin Test or X-Ray,” the original of which shall be maintained at the Child Care Facility. The Tuberculosis test or examination shall be repeated at least every twenty-four (24) months, or more often as required under NRS Chapter 441A, “Communicable Diseases.”
4.1.2 Every Child Care Provider and Food Handler shall maintain a current Child Care/Food Handler Health Card as issued by the Health Authority. Proof of current Health Cards shall be available for review at the Child Care Facility.
