What are the office hours for the Southern Nevada Health District Office of Emergency Medical Services & Trauma System (SNHD-OEMSTS)?
We are open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. We are closed weekends and holidays.
Are there different EMT levels?
Yes. There are three EMT levels: Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic.
- The EMT-Basic training is a minimum of 110 course hours.
- The EMT-Intermediate training is a minimum of 68 course hours. Intermediate students must already have an EMT Basic certificate.
- The EMT Paramedic training is a minimum of 290 clinical hours; 419 didactic hours; 251 1/2 lab hours; and 360-480 hours of field internship.

Are there any requirements to recertify my EMT certificate?
Yes. You must complete a refresher course appropriate to your level of certification and submit the paperwork to the SNHD-OEMSTS sixty days before your certificate expires.

How do I get a copy of the protocols for Clark County?

How do I file a complaint against an EMT?
Send a letter with the details of the complaint to SNHD-OEMSTS at P.O. Box 3902, Las Vegas, Nevada 89127. You will be contacted by telephone or mail regarding the investigation.

What if I completed a course of training within the past two years but was never certified?
You may apply for a challenge based on your course completion. Challenge applicants must satisfy the same requirements as EMT-Basic reciprocity applicants. Additionally, EMT-Paramedic applicants must also have the following:
- Current ACLS, BTLS/ITLS/PHTLS, and PALS or PEPP provider cards.
- Documentation of completion from an approved WMD course which includes the Health Alert Network supplemental training (available on our Weapons of Mass Destruction Training webpage).

What if my EMT certificate has expired?
You may apply as a challenge applicant if you:
- have successfully completed a course of training within the past two years equivalent to the level of certification being applied for, and have never held a certificate;
or
- have held an EMT (state or NREMT) certificate that has expired, at least equivalent to the level of certification being applied for.
Paramedic applicants must also show documentation of having completed a DOT EMT-Paramedic Training Program after January 1, 1977.
Do I need to complete a Weapons of Mass Destruction Training course prior to initial certification in Clark County?
No, but you must submit documentation of completion from a SNHD-OEMSTS approved WMD training course before your Clark County certificate expires or at time of recertification. The WMD course must also include the Health Alert Network supplemental training (available on our Weapons of Mass Destruction Training webpage).
Do I have to be certified in CPR before starting an EMT training program?
Yes, you must have a current, valid American Heart Association HealthCare Provider card or equivalent.
Do I have to be certified as an EMT-Basic before entering into an EMT-Intermediate or EMT Paramedic training program?
Yes.
Licensed Attendants
What is the difference between a certificate and a license?
A Nevada certificate is issued when you successfully complete an approved training course conducted within Clark County. An attendant license is issued when you are acting in the capacity of an attendant and provide patient care for a Clark County permitted agency.
Do licensed attendants need to carry the SNHD-OEMSTS issued attendant license while on duty with a permitted ambulance agency?
Yes. Failure to carry a SNHD-OEMSTS issued attendant license while on duty or failure to wear appropriate identification as approved by SNHD-OEMSTS is considered grounds for suspension or revocation of license.
When does my attendant license expire?
The expiration date is listed on your license. Your EMT certificate and attendant license will expire at the same time.
Is there a grace period on expiration dates for EMT certification?
No, you must recertify with SNHD-OEMSTS on or before your certification period expires.
Under what circumstances may an EMT apply for an extension for recertification?
If you are unable to complete the recertification requirements within the prescribed time due to circumstances beyond your reasonable control then you may apply, in writing, to SNHD-OEMSTS for late renewal. All requests for late renewal must be made before your certificate expires.
Valid reasons include military service, deployment, and personal or family illness. A late renewal fee will apply (refer to the EMS Fee Schedule).
Testing
Can I take the National Registry exam in Clark County, Nevada even if I don’t plan to get certified in Nevada?
Yes, National Registry open testing is available in Clark County (on a space available basis) at different times throughout the year. More information on future open testing dates is available at www.nremt.org.
How do I file a request for special accommodation for the written exam?
Special accommodations for written examinations will be made for people in accordance with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians’ (NREMT) Examination Accommodations Policy.

I am currently endorsed as a Preceptor. What are the requirements for endorsement as a Secondary Instructor?
