Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by a germ that grows easily in warm, moist areas, such as the vagina, penis, mouth and anus.
Gonorrhea is a very common infectious disease. In the United States, about 700,000 people get gonorrhea each year. In Clark County, 2,109 confirmed cases of gonorrhea have been reported since October 2006.
Anyone who has sex can get gonorrhea. In the United States, the highest reported rates of infection are among teenagers, young adults, and African Americans who have sex.
Untreated gonorrhea can cause serious and permanent health problems in both women and men.
The Southern Nevada Health District offers gonorrhea testing, treatment and assistance in notifying partners. The cost for this service is $25.00. Visit the STD Clinic for more information.
