Chlamydia
Chlamydia is the most frequently reported bacterial sexually transmitted disease in the United States. An estimated 2.8 million Americans are infected with Chlamydia each year.
In Clark County chlamydia is a serious health concern with 4,326 confirmed cases in 2005 and over 4,900 confirmed cases since October 2006.
Chlamydia can cause infertility if untreated. Symptoms of chlamydia are rare and most people don’t know they have chlamydia so they don’t get tested.
Anyone who has sex can get chlamydia. The more sex partners, the greater the risk of infection.
People at higher risk for infection include:
- Teenage girls
- Young women
- Men who have sex with men
The Southern Nevada Health District offers Chlamydia testing, treatment and assistance in notifying partners. The cost for this service is $25.00. Visit the STD Clinic for more information.
