Let Others In On The Plan

Can It, Southern Nevada
There's more to disaster preparedness than having critical supplies on hand. For total readiness, begin with these simple steps:
  • Designate two meeting points for all family members:
    • One outside your home, in case of fire
    • One outside your neighborhood in case you can't go home

  • Choose both a local and out-of-state contact for family members to call
  • Make sure everyone know where emergency numbers are posted

  • Install smoke detectors on each level of your home and check the batteries twice a year

  • Contact the fire department to learn about fire safety

  • Learn first aid and CPR - the American Red Cross can teach you how

  • Practice your family disaster plan

  • Be prepared for the special needs of children, the elderly or disabled persons

  • Work with your neighbors to develop a complete neighborhood plan - know which neighbors have special needs, which have special medical skills and designate childcare in case parents can't make it home
