Receive and Consider Nominations for Southern Nevada District Board of Health Officers for FY 2009-10; Make Recommendations to the Southern Nevada District Board of Health on July 23, 2009 for the Following Positions: Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary
Chair Giunchigliani asked Shelli Clark to create a form to solicit interest from Board members wishing to serve as officers. All forms were sent to the Board members via email. Ms. Clark read the following nominations into the records:

Chair Giunchigliani called for discussion on the nominees. Member Empey suggested that Chair Giunchigliani should remain as chair for the coming year citing she had done a good job. Member Strickland echoed Member Empey’s comments, saying she had done a wonderful job and allows sufficient discussion and airing of views. Member Jones concurred. Chair Giunchigliani said she would be willing to serve an additional year stating there were a few items she wished to continue working on with Dr. Sands and the Board, especially with the interim legislative committee and getting a balance so no one feels threatened about how the direction may go and to have more interaction between the Board. Member Vigilante expressed his desire to have her continue as Chair for another year.
Chair Giunchigliani suggested keeping the nomination form in place as it provided an opportunity for more discussion of potential nominees and allowed members to show their interest in serving. She said that improved communications within the district have also fueled members desire to serve.
Member Jones asked if solely elected members were eligible to serve as officers. Chair Giunchigliani asked Ms. Clark to research this item and it was determined that any member of the Board can serve as an officer.
Member Strickland motioned to nominate Chris Giunchigliani to serve as Chair for FY10; seconded by Member Jones and carried unanimously.
Chair Giunchigliani suggested Linda Strickland serve as vice chair for the coming year, stating that an outlying area would be better represented. Member Empey agreed that Member Strickland is very articulate and addresses key issues. Member Strickland said she was willing to serve, even though she is new to the political arena, but she has learned a great deal while serving on the Board. Members Jones and Vigilante each expressed their support of this nomination.
Chair Giunchigliani motioned to nominate Linda Strickland to serve as Vice Chair for FY10; seconded by Member Empey and carried unanimously.
Chair Giunchigliani noted that both Members Jones and Christensen attend every Board meeting and have history serving on the Board. She suggested the Board discuss further developing the role of the Secretary. Member Empey expressed interest for the position; however it was noted that as an alternate he cannot serve in that capacity. Member Jones said he was willing to serve.
Chair Giunchigliani motioned to nominate Tim Jones to serve as Secretary for FY10; seconded by Member Christensen and carried unanimously.
Chair Giunchigliani said this would be a great working group.
