Committee Meeting

Chair Fairchild called the meeting of the Nomination of Officers Committee to order at 9:32 a.m. She noted that she had been provided with the Affidavits of Posting and Mailing of Agenda meeting notices, as required by Nevada’s Open Meeting Law. The Affidavits will be incorporated into the Official Minutes.

Chair Fairchild recognized that Vice Chair Steven Kirk, and Secretary Gary Reese were participating telephonically.

II. Discussion

A. Receive and consider nominations for Southern Nevada District Board of Health Officers for FY 2007-08: Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary

The Committee met to receive and consider nominations for Southern Nevada District Board of Health Officers for FY 2007-08. Member Reese nominated Steven Kirk as Chair and Chris Giunchigliani as Vice Chair, but had no nomination for Secretary. Member Kirk said he didn’t know of anyone who wanted to serve as secretary. Member Reese said he hadn’t heard from anyone either, but would not mind serving. Member Kirk nominated Gary Reese as Secretary.

Chair Fairchild confirmed that the nominations are as follows:

Chair: Steven Kirk
Vice-Chair: Chris Giunchigliani
Secretary: Gary Reese

Chair Fairchild asked if the committee had heard from any other Board members expressing interest in serving. No committee members received word from other interested Board members.

III. Public Participation

Public participation is a period devoted to comments by the general public about matters relevant to the Board's jurisdiction. Items raised under this portion of the Agenda cannot be acted upon by the Board of Health until the notice provisions of Nevada's Open Meeting Law have been complied with. Therefore, no vote may be taken on a matter not listed on the posted agenda and any action on such items will have to be considered at a subsequent meeting.

Chair Fairchild asked if any member of public wished to be heard. No one came forward.

Chair Fairchild closed this portion of the meeting.

IV. Discussion / Action

A. Recommend to Southern Nevada District Board of Health, Officers for FY 2007-08 : Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary

Chair Fairchild called for a motion.

Member Reese motioned to recommend to Southern Nevada District Board of Health, Officers for FY 2007-08: Steven Kirk as Chair, Chris Giunchigliani as Vice-Chair and Gary Reese as Secretary. The motion was seconded by Member Kirk. There was no additional discussion and the motion carried unanimously.

This recommendation will come before the Board for report and discussion at the June meeting. The election of officers will take place at the July meeting per the Nevada Revised Statutes and the Board’s Bylaws; new officers will be sworn in at that time. Vice Chair Kirk will chair the July meeting as Chair Fairchild’s term of office as an elected official expires June 30, 2007.

V. Adjournment

There being no further business to come before the committee, Chair Fairchild adjourned the meeting at 9:36 a.m.
