Illegal “Medical” Facility Investigation

On September 30, 2015, the FBI and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers conducted a raid at a house located at 4928 E. Monroe Ave., Las Vegas, Nevada, 89110. A person identifying himself as Rick Van Thiel or “Dr. Rick” was providing unlicensed medical services. The individual was not licensed to practice medicine.

What types of services were provided at the residence at 4928 E. Monroe Ave.?

The extent of the services provided by the individual in question are part of the ongoing investigation. It has been reported that patients/victims were provided with a range of services that included hormone and vitamin injections. Advertised services included treatment for HIV and cancer.

How did victims access these services?

Victims may have obtained services after calling a (702) 488-2114 phone number; accessing the following websites: itsonlynatural.me, and 49days.me; or responding to Craigslist advertisements under the term “49days.”

What is the risk to a person who may have accessed services from this individual?

If a person received injections or invasive procedures (any procedure that broke the skin surface) with equipment that was not properly sterilized or improperly reused, they may be at risk for certain infectious diseases.

What types of disease can be transmitted by these types of unsafe practices?

These types of unsafe practices and unsanitary conditions can lead to the transmission of serious diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV.

What is the Southern Nevada Health District doing at this time?

Health District staff members are reviewing available records to determine the need for environmental and clinical testing. Based on the Health District’s findings, victims will be provided with information regarding their risk for contracting infectious diseases and assure they receive the appropriate medical guidance.
